A: We are a pioneering institution in South India offering specialized courses in FinTech and Retail Management. These programs are unique in the region, providing students with opportunities that were previously only available in the North. This helps equip students with relevant skills for the future. Q: Have you implemented any new digital transformation or technologies in your institution? A: Yes, we continually upgrade our curriculum to stay relevant. For example, we recently incorporated Artificial Intelligence into our BBA program, something we didn’t have two years ago. This keeps our offerings updated and aligned with industry needs. Q: How is your alumni network? A: Our alumni network is strong, with over 2,000 alumni since the institution’s establishment. Every year, we invite them to share their experiences, which benefits both current students and graduates. Q: Do you organize programs for your alumni? A: Yes, we organize an annual Alumni Network event, where alumni share their career experiences, helping to inspire and guide our current students. Q: What does “New Normal” mean to you in the context of education? A: “New Normal” refers to the need for students to adapt to new specializations and courses offered by institutions. While opportunities in fields like FinTech and Retail Management are vast, students need to be more open-minded and willing to opt for these modern courses rather than sticking to traditional ones. Business Blasters’ Programme Kicks Off in Delhi Schools for 2024-25

Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced the launch of the Business Blasters programme for the 2024-25 academic session, aimed at fostering entrepreneurial skills among students of classes 11 and 12 in government schools across the capital. The initiative will see the Arvind Kejriwal-led government providing Rs 40 crore in seed money to support students’ business ideas, with 2.45 lakh students participating this year and over 40,000 business ideas already submitted. Private schools have also been invited to join the programme voluntarily, with students proposing startup ideas involving perfumes, soaps, chocolates, eco-friendly products, and tech-based innovations. Originally launched in 2021, the Business Blasters programme is a key part of the government’s ‘entrepreneurship mindset curriculum,’ which started as a pilot in 2019. It provides seed funding to the top 150 student-formed startups, encouraging students to turn their ideas into viable businesses. Minister Atishi took the opportunity to criticize the BJP-led central government for failing to address unemployment, contrasting this with the Delhi government’s efforts to turn students into job providers rather than job seekers. She highlighted successful startups from last year’s programme, including A K Logistics, a registered private limited company formed by students that now employs 50 people. Other student-led startups include ‘Dark Chocobitz,’ which makes customized chocolates and employs 40 women, and ‘Disposal Walaa,’ an eco-friendly startup employing 20 people. IGNOU Launches BA in Micro Small & Medium Enterprises Programme

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the introduction of a new Bachelor of Arts in Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (BAMSME) programme. This programme, offered through the School of Vocational Education and Training (SOVET), is now open for applications for the July 2024 session. Interested candidates can apply through the official IGNOU website at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. The BAMSME programme is designed for individuals who have completed their 10+2 education. It aims to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the essential skills and knowledge required to start and manage new business ventures. Offered via open and distance learning (ODL), the programme is accessible to a wide audience. It is structured to provide flexibility, with a minimum duration of three years, divided into six semesters, and a maximum duration of six years. Students are required to complete a total of 120 credits, earning 20 credits per semester. The medium of instruction is English, and the programme fee is set at Rs 5,100 per year, totaling Rs. 15,300 for the entire three-year course. According to an IGNOU statement, the primary objectives of the BAMSME programme are to facilitate the successful and profitable operation of business enterprises, enhance managerial skills, and offer an innovative, competency-based approach to entrepreneurship education. The curriculum covers crucial aspects of business operations, including finance and marketing, and aims to develop leadership qualities essential for both self-empowerment and the empowerment of others.

Krishnakumar Could you tell us more about your group of institutions? We have completed our 50 years of existence, starting in 1968 in Coimbatore. We have a presence in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala with over 24 institutions, ranging from schools to a medical college. How do you ensure sustainability in education within your diverse group of institutions? We strongly believe in molding true citizens, which means not only giving an opportunity to complete graduation but also upskilling their abilities to meet industry requirements. We emphasize training and employability. For example, we have Technology Business Incubation (TBI) funded by DST (central government) to create startups, and we also have the NewGen IEDC initiative, which central government funds up to 2.5 lakhs for students’ projects to help them move from prototype to commercialization. Could you elaborate on the skill development and teacher training programs in your institution? We believe in training our faculty frequently. We have quarterly training sessions where we invite trainers from different industries and academia. We also encourage our faculty to upskill through various online certification programs as we evolve from traditional education to digitalization. Are there any new initiatives in technology within your institution? We are one of the few institutions in Kattur with multiple multiplex theaters on campus. This allows students and teachers developing e-content to see their work in a theater setting, enhancing the learning experience by creating an entertaining yet educational environment. What about global collaborations and exposure to international universities? As an affiliated institution, our ability to collaborate with foreign universities is limited due to state and central government policies. Universities have more freedom to engage in student exchange programs and faculty development programs abroad, but affiliated institutions must follow strict guidelines. What are your thoughts on employment versus employability? Employability is more important because it’s not just about getting a qualification but about ensuring that students are absorbed by the best industries. This is crucial for an educational institution’s survival. Top institutions maintain their status by ensuring high employability for their graduates. We focus on incubation and entrepreneurship, promoting a startup culture that allows students to understand entrepreneurship and take risks while still studying. What does the term ‘New Normal’ mean to you? New Normal means introducing new changes and ways of thinking and executing programs. It involves changing the traditional system to adapt to new methods and ideas, reflecting a fresh approach to education and leadership. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group?
