Prof. Basuthkar Jagadeeshwar Rao is an eminent biologist, academic leader, and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, with distinguished contributions to genome biology, cellular regulation, and higher education. A former Senior Professor and Chair of Biology at IISER Tirupati and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, he has over three decades of experience in research and academic leadership. A Fellow of all three National Science Academies of India and recipient of the Sir J. C. Bose Award, he has authored around 160 high-impact international publications. Prof. Rao has served on several high-level committees of the Ministry of Education, UGC, and Government of India, shaping national policies in science and higher education. As Chief Editor of the Journal of Biosciences, he continues to advance scientific research while passionately promoting concept-driven, inquiry-based learning and academic excellence.
