“Insights from Mayur Ashok on Education, Community Impact, and the Role of Technology”

Kathawate Mayur Ashok, IAS Joint Collector & Addl. DM, Visakhapatnam expressed “Skilling is essential because there’s often a gap between what students learn in college and what is required in the workplace” Can you tell us about the significance of forums like these and how they help the community? Education is very complex, involving a large number of stakeholders. Conducting such conferences helps because, from the government’s point of view, we get to know the perspectives of each stakeholder, the challenges they face, and their contributions. With new technologies and stakeholders emerging, it’s crucial to adapt policies and improve implementation strategies, which these forums help us understand better.  Under your leadership, you’ve worked on various administrative tasks. Could you highlight any community initiatives that have had a significant impact? One of our key initiatives has been involving parents in government schools through mega parent-teacher meetings, as parental involvement is generally less in government schools. We also started educational tourism in Vishakhapatnam, where students visit heritage sites in the city to learn about the local history and contributions to India’s legacy. This initiative helps make students more curious and innovative.  How do skilling and employability programs play a role in community development, and have you implemented any sustainable programs? Skilling is essential because there’s often a gap between what students learn in college and what is required in the workplace. We focus on skilling marginalized sections through government programs like PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana, skill hubs, and skill colleges. We involve local companies for internships and direct skill training, helping students get absorbed into these companies. What role do new technologies, like digital transformations, play in improving sectors like education and governance in Vishakhapatnam? Technology plays a huge role. During elections, we use technology to communicate directly with citizens about their voting rights. The government of Andhra Pradesh is also planning to bring more services through WhatsApp and online platforms, making it more accessible to citizens. We also run awareness campaigns on cyber fraud, educating the public about prevention methods.  The event is named ‘New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Award.’ What does the term “New Normal” mean to you? The term “New Normal” refers to the rapid changes we are witnessing. What used to take 20-30 years for change is now happening within 2 years due to advancements in technology like AI, machine learning, and big data. For me, the New Normal is technology—whenever new technology emerges, it becomes the new normal.

Prof Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, Manager, City Montessori School shared the importance of diversification, and vision for the future of the school

ArdorComm Interview

“The key factors are the choice of parents to send their children to our school, honesty towards the children, and a sincere commitment to service.” Said Prof Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, Manager, City Montessori School We would like to understand more about your organization, its diversification, and your vision for the future. City Montessori School is a K-12 school in Lucknow with 21 campuses across the city, serving about 63,000 students. Each campus has its own principal, and there is a head office managing common operations. We focus on providing education in three areas: material, human, and divine. We emphasize skill development, not just theoretical learning, so children can apply their knowledge effectively and develop communication and collaboration skills. How does it feel to have your school ranked and nominated in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest school in a city? What are the key factors attracting both domestic and international students? It’s a great privilege to be in the Guinness Book of World Records. The key factors are the choice of parents to send their children to our school, honesty towards the children, and a sincere commitment to service. Our diligent teachers, discipline, focus on good values, and respect for teachers contribute significantly to our success. What key implementations have you made to modernize your education system and move towards new-age learning? We have embraced educational technology, using tools like Google Classroom, interactive whiteboards, and flat panels. However, modernizing education is not just about technology but also about moving away from rote learning towards skill development. We’ve reformed our assessments to be competency-based, encouraging teachers to focus on creating competencies rather than just preparing students for exams. This shift aims to ensure conceptual clarity and the ability to apply knowledge effectively. The event is named the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Award. What does the term “new normal” mean to you? The new normal signifies a shift from traditional teaching methods, where the teacher is the sole source of knowledge, to a more engaging and participatory approach. It involves students being actively involved in their learning through peer work, group work, and collaborative learning. We aim to integrate subjects and use experiential learning to show connections between different topics, like how geography and chemistry intersect. We are celebrating the third anniversary of ArdorComm Media. Do you have any messages or feedback for the ArdorComm Media Group? Connecting people and bringing together stakeholders in education is valuable. By facilitating exchanges of ideas, you help improve education practices. I appreciate the platform you provide for educationists to share their insights.

Dr. Puttaraju, Vice Chancellor, Mandya University, Shares his Views on New Normal Karnataka

“I think higher education in the country, particularly through Karnataka and Bangalore, is doing a really fantastic job,” says Dr. Puttaraju, Vice Chancellor, Mandya University, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bengaluru? I’m really happy to be part of this New Normal Education Summit in Karnataka, and the effort made by ArdorComm in bringing these different people who are really experienced in this education together today and having a meaningful interaction section is really appreciable. We usually think in silos, you know. I being in the education system for the last 35 years, and unless I interact with my peers, it is not possible to come out with meaningful solutions to the Indian higher education issues. In this direction, I’m really happy to congratulate and compliment ArdorComm Media for having made a good effort and bringing all the people here. From morning till evening, we have a couple of sessions and a lot of interactions. I hope we all come together and meet the aspirations of the country through different people. And as I said, our experience should be integrated in a very meaningful way and see that higher education in this country is recognized everywhere and worldwide. I sincerely thank you all and thank ArdorComm Media for this great opportunity. As you know, the theme of our event is New Normal Karnataka, and Karnataka is an education hub. So, what’s your take on this? In fact, the entire India, if you compare, Bangalore is known for its higher education quality. Not only in Karnataka, not only in India, the entire world, people usually refer to Bangalore as a place for higher education. I think unmatched quality education is there. It is not because of the students; it is because of the culture and ecosystem created by everybody. Not necessarily education institutions, even people like ArdorComm and everybody are coming into this platform to spread the message about education. I think higher education in the country, particularly through Karnataka and Bangalore, is doing a really fantastic job. As you can see, in this kind of forums, we bring in education leaders, the EdTech players, as well as representation from the government. So, how does this kind of forum benefit the education sector? In fact, when we get to exchange our ideas, for example, I interact with a couple of people, and I came to know that after 35 years of experience, there are a lot of solutions available to our problems. We keep on dwelling on our problems, thinking for the solutions, and that is the domain for somebody else, and somebody else is there to give the solutions. And this platform definitely brings in all these problems and solutions together. Now, I know that there are a couple of solutions to my problems, and definitely this platform and this collaboration will help us to understand each other much better, and we can give very quality education to our students and the country. ArdorComm Media Group has recently completed 2 years of its existence, any message or wishes for us? I’m really happy, within two years, you are making so much noise. I think by the time you complete a decade, 10 years, your presence will be felt by everybody. I hope you continue your services like this and help us bring in different people, including meritorious students and staff members, along with the administrators, so that there is meaningful interaction happening there. I wish ArdorComm Media a grand future in the years to come and hope it will do some service to society through these meaningful interactions.
