Dr. C. Manohar, Senior Director, ISBR; Chairman – BMA Industry Academia Partnership Initiative, Emphasizes on New Normal Karnataka

“Today the learning space is huge at the same time learning potential is also very high so to match this we have to bring the right kind of content, methodology and the technology adoption,” says Dr. C. Manohar, Senior Director, ISBR; Chairman – BMA Industry Academia Partnership Initiative, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bengaluru? The summit is very good, very well, I would say. The architecture by design and the structure in terms of content, the choice of speakers is very comprehensive. It covers everything from preschool to higher education. The design of the event is excellent. The theme of the event is “New Normal Karnataka.” What’s your take on this? It’s a timely theme. The new normal in Karnataka is not significantly different from the national new normal, except for some policy differences due to political orientations. We hope that what emerges from the state education policy will be positive. Cooperation among all stakeholders is crucial. This includes policy makers, infrastructure providers, educators, students, parents, and even the corporate sector. Technology providers, especially in the EdTech space, play a significant role. We are still evolving in the EdTech sector, and the market needs are changing. Capability building is essential for educators to meet these evolving needs. I would say we are still in the possibly higher space of evolution now the covid gave us a chance to experiment explore and then come to some level of validation. Now it has changed the market is different today, the market needs are different, today capability building is a continuous effort and all the educators have to constantly focus on that to come with something new and that is where the new era of education is what we see, new era in terms of time, in terms of space and time, in terms of our audience, our audience are today very intellectual, the children from young age to the adult learners. Today the learning space is huge at the same time learning potential is also very high so to match this we have to bring the right kind of content, methodology and the technology adoption. How does a forum like this benefit the education sector? Such forums are essential because they connect people. When we meet and interact, we understand each other’s pain points and possibilities. Bringing together policymakers, school and college management, tech players, and other stakeholders allows us to collaborate and make education better. It’s a great opportunity for interaction and understanding each other’s needs to bring out our best potential. I must congratulate ArdorComm Media. Your events have been consistently elevating year after year.

Dr. Madhusudan N. Purohit, Dean (IQAC) at JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru, Shares Insights on Technology Integration in Education

“We introduced online teaching and developed an in-house system to reach all our students,” says Dr. Madhusudan N. Purohit, Dean (IQAC) at JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bengaluru? Thank you very much for the opportunity. I represent JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, which is a deemed university from Mysuru. This is the first time that I’m participating in such an event, and I congratulate ArdorComm for bringing educational experts from across the globe and Karnataka. This is a wonderful opportunity for educators like me, teachers, and representatives of the education sector. In the morning session, I saw vice-chancellors of several universities sitting at one platform, discussing the real situations, both pre and post-COVID, and how the system is evolving. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the new trends in educational technology. I hope ArdorComm continues to conduct such events and expands its reach to other cities beyond Bangalore and Kolkata, reaching out to the northern part of Karnataka and other educational institutions that may not have the opportunity to come to metros to learn. So, that’s my suggestion, and again, I congratulate the ArdorComm team for conducting this wonderful event. How are you implementing technology in your institution? As one of the panellists mentioned earlier, before the pandemic, we were predominantly offline. However, when COVID hit in 2020, we had to respond urgently to ensure that teaching and learning continued. JSS’s tagline is “Graduation on time,” and we were committed to ensuring that students graduated on schedule. We had to adopt the concept of “Learn Anywhere, Anytime.” We introduced online teaching and developed an in-house system to reach all our students. Our goal was to make sure that 100% of the classes took place, even during the toughest times, such as the first and second COVID waves. We provided students with access to teaching materials, ensuring that graduation occurred on time. As a result, our graduation was on schedule, and placement opportunities for our students were excellent, making us a role model in this regard. That’s the JSS experience I wanted to share. ArdorComm Media Group has recently completed 2 years of its existence, any message or wishes for us? Even though ArdorComm is just in its infancy, in two years, they have shown great promise. I wish them all the best and encourage them to expand their reach, identify more cities, and make their presence felt in various locations.

Dr. Prakash S, Sr. Vice President, East Point Group of Institutions, Emphasizes on Importance of Skill Development

“What we should be able to do is identify the talent DNA of a particular child at an early stage and embed the right skills for that talent,” says Dr. Prakash S, Sr. Vice President, East Point Group of Institutions, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bengaluru? It’s a great experience here, completely packed sessions, nice to listen from Col. (Prof) Y. S. Siddegowda, Higher Education Council’s Vice Chairman, had a lot of insights, and there are many good speakers you have picked for the sessions. The themes are very good, and there’s good networking quite naturally. It’s always getting people moving to get connected. What I feel is that now the technology is going to take the education sector, and a lot of transformation is happening in the education sector post-COVID. This is where all educators, industry, and academic people come to converge at one point. I feel happy that you people have created a great platform for this convergence and where interaction will happen, so it adds a lot of value to all the stakeholders here. The theme of our event is New Normal Karnataka, and Karnataka is an education hub. What’s your take on this? Karnataka, more specifically Bangalore, is a Silicon City where a lot of IT happens. Since the education sector is at the verge of transformation and the National Education Policy (NEP) is in place now, what I see is that the way we deliver education services is going to take a paradigm shift. This is one platform where we have LinkedIn, and people from LinkedIn have participated. LinkedIn is a great platform for learning today, a lot of people know about Anthology, Blackboard, and other companies. So, understanding the technology and how we can integrate it into our teaching and learning process, building it out, is where teachers can understand how to facilitate the teaching-learning process and enhance the productivity for the student and all the stakeholders. What’s your take on skill development? How can the young generation in this 21st century hone skill development for employability? I always tell this, I’ve been speaking at different platforms on this. We have talent on one side and there are skills, competency, and capability. If I want to connect all the four dots, if I go back and see my complete education system, probably in my times, our talent DNA was something different, and we had different skills. What we should be able to do is identify the talent DNA of a particular child at an early stage and embed the right skills for that talent. Then the student will excel in whatever profession they aspire to. Today, it’s all about the skills. LinkedIn, for instance, added around 33 million skill sets onto their platform. It’s not about the degree; the degree has taken a backseat. Now, if you have skills, you are deployable from day one. The focus is shifting towards skilling, and it’s the new norm. ArdorComm Media Group has recently completed 2 years of its existence, any message or wishes for us? It’s a nice initiative, and you are very young. I just came to know that you are just 2 years old. I wish you all the best. You’re doing a great job, especially towards the education sector. You need to continue this and do it at a bigger, larger scale for the next time. I’ll be happy to participate in the next coming events.

Dr. N. R. Bhanumurth, Vice Chancellor, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar School of Economics University, Highlights Significance of Education 4.0 and Digital Innovation

“We are talking about Education 4.0, where the education sector needs to adapt to the emerging challenges, especially coming from digital innovation,” says Dr. N. R. Bhanumurth, Vice Chancellor, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar School of Economics University, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bangalore? Yeah, this is very interesting, I would say. It’s very timely, where this whole Summit is integrating users and producers of Education technology, and some of the best practices have been highlighted throughout the day. I’m sure the title of this Summit, “New Normal,” is certainly a new normal in the education sector. We are talking about Education 4.0, where the education sector needs to adapt to the emerging challenges, especially coming from digital innovation. At the same time, bridging the gap between supply and demand in the industry, where the necessary skills required for employability of students become a major factor going forward. Especially when we talk about India becoming one of the developed countries, I think the education sector is going to play a very major role, and this Summit is certainly a big contributor to making India a place for the education sector, not only for Indian students but also for attracting more students from abroad. How are you implementing technology in your institution? I’m from a public sector university, and we have synergized our curriculum where the National Education Policy suggests that we can have up to 40% digital learning. We started implementing it slowly and are trying to implement whatever flexibility is available in the National Education policy. We are one of the early universities to implement digital education for our students and make it customized for each student, which gives a lot of flexibility. At the same time, we’re seeing students using resources available on digital platforms. The progress in the Indian education sector has increased inclusivity for all students, but there’s still a long way to go, and some segments still exclude students. That’s where the sector needs to play a major role going forward. Any message or wishes for ArdorComm Media Group, which has recently completed 2 years of its existence? I would say that you are doing a great service to the nation, particularly in bringing together users and producers. My suggestion is that it’s important to equally focus on the public sector. You will play a major role and contribute significantly to the nation. India has been at the forefront of bringing digital public infrastructure, not just for our nation but for the whole world. The aim of ArdorComm Media should be to have inclusivity in terms of getting more public institutions. The long-term game lies in the public sector, in my view. The private sector is short-term, but the long-term game lies in public sector.

Sapna Sukul, Founder of Edustart Solutions and COO of Boarding School Association of India (BSAI), Highlights the Role of BSAI in Shaping India’s Education Landscape

“We are trying to bring all the boarding schools together, and the second step is to make partially boarding schools become members,” says Sapna Sukul, Founder of Edustart Solutions and COO of Boarding School Association of India (BSAI), in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bengaluru? I have come just for this Summit. I flew down from Delhi for this, and I know ArdorComm founder, Chandan very well. The reason I came all the way for this is because of his hard work, dedication, and the way he thinks about how he wants education to be in the future. I wanted to contribute to this panel discussion where the founder of this Association is so much involved in bringing education and educationists together for the new normal. As you know, the theme of our event is New Normal Karnataka. What’s your take on this? When I came here, I knew that I’m going to a country of legends who are visionary and who know more than what we want to ask them. So, I was well prepared. I did my little research about what I’m going to ask and how I’m going to ask. It wasn’t a surprise because I was prepared, and all educationists here are well-versed with the system and the knowledge they are imparting to the students. It was a very good learning experience. I call myself a learner because wherever you go, you just learn a lot about people, demography of the place, and how the schools are doing. It was a wonderful experience. Could you share about EduStart Solutions and what you are providing? So, EduStart Solutions was formed during the pandemic, just before the pandemic. I am a master trainer with British Council and an ambassador with British Council. However, it took me a little further. I do audits of schools, I’m a trainer with schools, I’m a trainer with a few publishers, and I’m also an English examiner for various assessments and jury for many awards. As you can see in this kind of forums where we bring in education leaders, EdTech players, as well as the government, how does this kind of forum benefit the education sector? It bridges the gap between the government and the private sector because everybody works in their own silo. Government works the way they want, and so when such platforms exist, government dignitaries come, private schools come, and they share their common views on a platform where it is organized. It’s very important to bridge the gap by bringing leaders from both sides. In my new role with the Boarding Schools Association of India, I feel that we need government support because all boarding schools will require government initiatives. Any initiatives which you would like to highlight that you have taken in the Boarding School Association? We are trying to bring all the boarding schools together, and the second step is to make partially boarding schools become members. Once we become a big cohort run only by boarding school members, our association will have heritage schools, standalone schools, and the big schools of India, which have been running for 100 years or more. I’m sure the schools coming up with boarding will benefit a lot from these leaders who are leading such institutions. ArdorComm Media has completed two years of its existence. Any message or wishes for us? For me, ArdorComm Media is Ashish and Chandan. So, when Chandan started his journey with ArdorComm Media, I wished him then, and I wish him again for the second year. We can see the success of this event, and I’m sure it will go to the next level within a few years. I’m also happy that this is the only media that deals with mass media communication, so I wish them all the best.

Prof. (Dr.) Raj Singh, Vice Chancellor, JAIN (Deemed to be University), Discusses the Future of Education at the New Normal Education Leadership Summit

“Through normal traditional teaching and learning methods, we cannot attain higher-order learning outcomes, and that doesn’t serve the purpose of the industry,” says Prof. (Dr.) Raj Singh, Vice Chancellor, JAIN (Deemed to be University), in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bengaluru? It’s a great initiative, one that not only brings the industry and academia on the same platform but also enables interaction of multiple institutions, exchange of ideas, and benefits from the best practices which every other institution is following. The topic of today’s discussion was very relevant, particularly in the post-National Education Policy scenario, which is also coinciding with the post-COVID scenario, as we call it. To my mind, there’s nothing like the “new normal” because the new normal keeps on changing every day. This new normal is very dynamic. I think it is safe to guess that, to my mind, the environment which is evolving would say that one-third of the education will be delivered through online content, which could be synchronous or asynchronous. One-third of it will be through face-to-face education on campuses, where certain projects and certain lab sessions need to be conducted on the campus to interact with professors. The remaining one-third will be shifted outside the campus, where students have to be in touch with the industry, community, and society. They will meet and talk to them, identify the issues they’re facing, come back to the campus, undertake research projects, and try to find solutions to those problems. All the panel discussions were relevant, emphasizing research-based teaching and learning and a multi-disciplinary environment. These are ways to expand learning opportunities and enable students to attain higher-order learning outcomes, which is the need of the hour. Through normal traditional teaching and learning methods, we cannot attain higher-order learning outcomes, and that doesn’t serve the purpose of the industry. It is because of this reason we have been labelled to a large extent unfairly, that we don’t produce employable graduates. But yes, there are some issues which I think these kinds of platforms enable us to learn and tell others through the exchange of ideas. I’m sure we collectively will benefit and be able to transform our education system, where we not only serve the industry but also serve the community and society at large. I thank ArdorComm Media for having me here. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group for completing two years of its existence? Heartiest congratulations on completing two years. You have been doing great work. I’ve attended many events organized by you. Keep on doing this good work, and maybe we can interact on bringing new formats of this kind of conference and discussions where we can involve more people, not only speakers but more people who can contribute. Sometimes the best ideas come from youngsters, not only from senior people like us. If you can have a discussion format where multiple sub-topics could be distributed and they could talk on each of them after having intense discussions.

Dr. Sami Ulla, CEO of Manipal Group of Schools, Shares Insights on the Future of Education at New Normal Leadership Summit

“We are completely technology-enabled. We have hybrid and blended teaching and learning techniques,” says Dr. Sami Ulla, CEO of Manipal Group of Schools, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bengaluru? Oh, it’s amazing. I’m attending for the first time, but it’s organized well. Beautiful atmosphere, and I think the entire industry fraternity, both from K-12 and higher education, we could get to see here. It was very thought-provoking sessions, and we get to know and learn many things from this. I’m really very grateful to ArdorComm Media for organizing this and having me here. Thank you so much. As you know, the theme of our event is “New Normal Karnataka.” What’s your take on this? See, luckily for us, Bangalore is a very IT-savvy city compared to all other cities in the country, and a large number of educational institutions have implemented technology. But again, as we had the session, the rural areas are pretty missed out for this implementation, either be the end-user devices, network, or the content. So, they are pretty left behind. I wish Karnataka, as a state, takes up this, and the country as such also. Technology is the future, and our students have to be digitally competent to face the future. How are you implementing these new age technologies in your institution? We are completely technology-enabled. We have hybrid and blended teaching and learning techniques. Much of the activities happen in the school, and the remedial part, the regular assessments, and the external engagement happen outside the campus. So, we have made sure that we use all the tools, either Google-sponsored tools or Apple or Microsoft. We have implemented the best tools of these companies. ArdorComm Media Group has recently completed two years of its existence, any message or wishes for us? Wonderful! Congratulations for coming into this space. I think it’s a win-win situation for the education industry and perhaps for the Media as such. I congratulate and wish you all the luck and keep having such programs where educationists can come and learn many things from these kinds of events. Thanks for organizing this.

Vamsheepriya Amar, Principal, MVJ International School; Chairperson, Bangalore Sahodaya (BSSCA), Shares Insights on Skill Education

“Knowledge is not just for exchange; knowledge can be for assimilation as well. So how well you assimilate this knowledge is very important,” says Vamsheepriya Amar, Principal, MVJ International School; Chairperson, Bangalore Sahodaya (BSSCA), in an interview with Chandan Anand, CEO & Group Editor, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka Under your leadership, what is your organization doing, and how is Bangalore Sahodaya grooming and growing day by day? See, first of all, let me think about the panel we just heard. They were talking about teachers’ training. We have massively utilized this platform to reach out to every school in training the learners. I am saying training the learners because they have that kind of acumen to improvise as well as to implement that back into the classrooms. So that is one of the things that we have taken on. Also, they were talking about the rural areas. Yes, we have reached out to all the remote areas where learning could have been difficult, and to get that 50 hours of CPD program back into the classrooms and the schools would have been difficult. So, reaching out to them and making it possible for them in the classrooms was one of our missions for BSSCA, basically. And also, I recently met here a couple of people, and I got a better insight into how technology can be empowering the classroom and learning environment. I just recently met somebody who was talking about the NCF (National Curriculum Framework) and FLN (Foundational Literacy and Numeracy) strategies and how technology has really helped them to take it back into the classrooms and make sure that NCF curriculum goals will be positively taken into consideration. That, I think, is a major learning for me today being here. And of course, ArdorComm is doing very well. Congratulations on your second year of launching this and trying to connect with a number of people in and around. Sometimes it so happens, back in school, we are into that, well, we feel our job is to just take care of our school, but when we come out into such open forums, we do meet people and we can really interact and also learn a lot. And I become a co-learner; that’s a basic thing that I felt is really motivating and inspiring. What is the motivation for teachers in the school campus when it comes to your shoulders as a responsibility? They need to soil their hands, and if I can use, because you’re back in Karnataka, I would like to use a proverb, “The more you soil your hands, you enjoy or reap the fruits, basically.” So, the thing is they should be thinking deeply about how much they can contribute to the learning field, and the day being learners themselves, every day is a learning, and every experience they need to reflect that enhances the metacognition skills. And I’m sure learning will be exponential unless it is within, and that innate motivation, I would say intrinsic motivation, I don’t think extrinsic motivation is possible with some of us. But yes, people like you give us the extrinsic motivation and make us feel that yes, we are doing and we’re in the right place. Let us do some more. So that’s a kind of extrinsic motivation people derive from events like this or connections like this. So, both should be balanced, extrinsic as well as intrinsic. What is the role of skill education in school education? How is it moving forward in your school, and how are you taking care of skill education? Yeah, I think NCF also speaks about this, knowledge skills, as well as competencies. All of it should be together; it should be an amalgamation of cognitive, affective, as well as psychomotor domains. So, knowledge is not just for exchange; knowledge can be for assimilation as well. So how well you assimilate this knowledge is very important. And the skills can be soft skills; all your 21st-century skills from effective communication to collaboration to creativity and critical thinking. Nothing is quantitative; it’s quality that we are depending upon. So that is one thing that we need to be mindful of in school. So, encourage every child; we never know when the child can be a radio jockey with a lot of humour, and that calls for a 21st-century skill, which is effective communication, that’s right. And after which, I did mention about the competencies. Identify these rich skills in children, mould them, nurture them, and help them explore through self-awareness where they can really understand the balance between their strengths, their weaknesses, the areas where they can really improvise. I think they may not be 100%, but the fact that they’re trying to move in the right direction is more than enough. In a forum like this, where we see the corporate is here, the government is here, the academia from school and higher education is here. What is the outcome, and what do you expect from such forums? We look forward to the policies which are really hidden and they never come out sometimes. So, when people speak, they actually get the forums in which they were actively involved back onto the stage and back to the public. So, we are looking forward to hearing from them and understanding whether the policy is just for the sake of policy or there’s going to be an implementation and a carry forward of it. We are glad to share that we have recently celebrated our second anniversary. Any message would you like to give to ArdorComm Media Group? You’re doing a great job. Please keep continuing this good job. Get more and more educators together so that we will learn from one another, and learning is constant. Congratulations on that.

Syeda Khadija, Director, Olive Garden Kindergarten, Bengaluru, Emphasizes on Teacher Training

“I train my staff, and I make it a point that I tie up with various online platforms to get the staff trained,” says Syeda Khadija, Director, Olive Garden Kindergarten, Bengaluru, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit & Award in Bangalore? It’s really very educative and informative, and I’m gaining a lot of information. I really liked the section of “I-Math,” and I went and personally spoke to the people there at that counter, and probably I’m going to tie up with them, so it’s benefiting us. As you know, the theme of our event is “New Normal Karnataka.” What’s your take on this? Frankly speaking, new norms have been a problem for kindergarteners because they are not giving us the exact policies that have to be implemented. When children are getting admitted, we are very much confused about what is the age group we have to admit the child in. So, without the right information, we are stuck nowhere. They need to really give us the proper information on it. And now, again, it’s changed, so I’m not in favour of this because it’s not giving us enough information. How do you train the teachers? Can you emphasize on teacher training? Firstly, I have got myself trained by Lata ma’am, who is a Montessorian, and under her guidance, I train my teachers. It’s very clear that all the teachers who are there in my school are trained because, as one of our speakers did say, if a teacher is not trained, the children are not going to get on the right path. So, I train my staff, and I make it a point that I tie up with various online platforms to get the staff trained. That is how we go about it. As you can see in this kind of forums where we bring in education leaders, EdTech players, as well as the government, how does this kind of forum benefit the education sector? It gives us a better understanding of what is happening around and helps us improve our skills. Like I just said, I liked the section of “I-Math,” so I’ll be introducing it into my school. That is going to help us, and yes, they are giving us some information on the National Education Policy, so that’s clearing our doubts. So, they are benefiting us. Any message or wishes for ArdorComm Media Group on recently completing its 2 years journey? Frankly speaking, ArdorComm was the first company who recognized the work of Olive Garden during COVID, and we were awarded by them. That is the reason why, again, I’ve been a part of it. Definitely, I’m giving you all the best wishes to grow further and try to circulate more information to us.

“Our USP has always been that we will bring the best-in-class solutions in whichever areas we operate,” says Sudhir Shetty, Vice President – Marketing, Anthology, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bangalore? Yeah, it was a good event as I got a lot of new learnings. There were people from public universities, private universities, corporates, so it was a really good session. We want to be enablers in the gross enrolment ratios, encouraging students to go for higher education. Our global aim is to improve the lives of both educators and people who are getting educated. Our USP has always been that we will bring the best-in-class solutions in whichever areas we operate. Any message or wishes for ArdorComm Media Group on recently completing its 2 years journey? I would wish them all the best of luck, and they have been a great partner to us. We’ll continue working with them as it has been really helpful in spreading our message to this market, especially in growing in this market.
