Flipkart has announced plans to create more than 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities during the upcoming festive season, including positions for gig workers, as the e-commerce company expands its logistics network to handle increased demand.
Around 60% of the new opportunities, or nearly 1.4 lakh positions, will be in last-mile delivery. The company has also added more than 900 festive delivery hubs across India to strengthen its distribution network ahead of the festive sales period.
The employment opportunities will span over 7,000 Ekart facilities, including fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery operations. Flipkart said the expansion is being supported by increasing demand from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and the continued growth of its quick-commerce service, Flipkart Minutes.
A significant share of the seasonal opportunities will also go to first-time workers. Nearly 75,000 people, accounting for around 30% of the total opportunities, are expected to enter the workforce through these roles.
Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain, Customer Experience and ReCommerce, Flipkart Group, said the company was expanding its fulfilment and delivery infrastructure to meet festive demand while generating employment across different parts of the country.
The company also reported growing participation of women and persons with disabilities in its supply chain operations. Women currently constitute more than 20% of Flipkart’s supply chain workforce, while the participation of persons with disabilities has expanded across warehouse and delivery functions.
Flipkart’s Supply Chain Operations Academy (SCOA) has issued nearly 10,000 certifications ahead of the festive season. The programme offers practical training in supply chain operations and is conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, NCVET and ITI Kalyani.
Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group, said the festive hiring was part of a broader ecosystem supporting jobs, livelihoods and entrepreneurship as digital commerce expands across India.
The company added that its marketplace connects millions of sellers, merchants and small businesses with consumers nationwide. It also provides support to its supply chain workforce through initiatives such as medical and accident insurance, 24×7 Doctor on Call and assistance with eShram registration.
