IIT Roorkee Releases JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Rules; Exam Scheduled for May 17

IIT Roorkee has officially announced the eligibility criteria and key dates for JEE Advanced 2026. Only the top 2,50,000 performers from the JEE Main 2026 BE/BTech paper will qualify, based on a fixed category-wise distribution. The exam will be conducted on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Under Criterion A1, candidates must rank within the top 2.5 lakh across categories: 40.5% OPEN, 10% GEN-EWS, 27% OBC-NCL, 15% SC and 7.5% ST, with an additional 5% PwD horizontal reservation in each group. IIT Roorkee noted that totals may slightly exceed 2.5 lakh if ranks are tied. Foreign national categories OCI/PIO (I) will be treated strictly under OPEN, without access to reservation benefits except PwD where applicable. Age limits require candidates to be born on or after October 1, 2001, with a five-year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD. Candidates may attempt JEE Advanced only twice in two consecutive years. For Class XII eligibility, students must have appeared for the first time in 2025 or 2026 with PCM as compulsory subjects. IIT Roorkee clarified that any declared board result—regardless of exam mode—counts as an appearance. Students who appeared in 2024 or earlier are ineligible, except for the special case where boards released results for the 2023–24 session on or after June 18, 2024, making those candidates eligible. SSC cuts recruitment timeline to 6–10 months; CGL 2025 exam postponed to September

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has introduced a series of reforms to significantly speed up its recruitment process, reducing the cycle from the earlier 15–18 months to just 6–10 months. Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that the advance notice for examinations has also been curtailed—from around 45 days to just 21 days. The Commission has now shifted entirely to computer-based examinations, moving away from traditional pen-and-paper formats. In several exams, the number of stages has been cut down. Notably, interviews have been scrapped and descriptive papers discontinued across all recruitment tests, except in the Combined Hindi Translators exam. Document verification of selected candidates is being directly carried out by the respective ministries and departments linked to the vacancies. Meanwhile, the SSC announced that the CGL 2025 examination has been deferred to September following a technical evaluation of its online testing platform. A revised schedule will be released soon. To streamline verification and enhance transparency, the SSC has rolled out a centralised online e-dossier system. This system provides role-based access to authorised officials, generates unique tracking IDs for records, and has already been implemented in exams such as CGL 2024, CHSL 2024, Junior Engineer 2024, and MTS & Havaldar 2024. According to Singh, the platform has reduced dependence on physical files, ensured quicker validation of records, and improved coordination between SSC and ministries, resulting in faster pre-appointment checks. In terms of inclusivity, Singh highlighted that since 2022, SSC has been conducting major national-level exams like CHSL, MTS & Havaldar, and Constable (GD) in 13 regional languages apart from Hindi and English. Civil services aspirants also enjoy the option of writing their papers in any of the 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Similarly, other recruitment bodies such as the IBPS and RRBs also conduct examinations in 13 regional languages. Source: Indian Express

UPSC Releases CSE 2024 Prelims Answer Key; 2025 Prelims Scheduled for May 25

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the answer keys for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) Preliminary 2024 on May 21. Candidates who appeared for the General Studies Paper 1 and Paper 2 can now access the answer keys through the Commission’s official websites — upsc.gov.in and upsconline.gov.in. For General Studies Paper 1, three questions from each of the four test series — A, B, C, and D — have been removed. However, no questions have been eliminated from Paper 2. The preliminary exam took place on June 16, 2024, followed by the mains held over five days — September 20, 21, 22, 28, and 29. Candidates who cleared the mains were invited for the personality test (interview) round, which ran from January 7 to April 17, 2025. A total of 2,845 aspirants reached this final interview stage. UPSC declared the final results for CSE 2024 on April 22, 2025. This year, Shakti Dubey secured the All India Rank (AIR) 1. A total of 1,009 candidates have been recommended for various elite services, including the IAS, IFS, IPS, and Central Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ services. However, the candidatures of 241 individuals remain provisional pending further verification. Looking ahead, the UPSC CSE 2025 prelims are scheduled for May 25, with 979 vacancies open across various civil services. Hall tickets for the upcoming prelims have already been issued. Candidates who find discrepancies in their admit cards must promptly report the issue to the Commission via email at uscsp-upsc@nic.in. It is essential to include key personal details such as name, roll number, registration ID, and examination year while raising any concerns. In instances where the photograph on the admit card is either unclear or missing the name and date, candidates are required to bring a valid photo ID along with two recent passport-sized photographs (bearing their name and date) for both examination sessions. An undertaking will also need to be submitted at the exam venue. The UPSC CSE is a three-tiered selection process — comprising the preliminary test, mains, and a personal interview. The final merit list is prepared by combining scores from the mains and the interview round. Source: Indian Express Photo Credit: TOI
