Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced that the Tripura government is focusing on enhancing sports infrastructure across the state to support and nurture local talent. Dr. Saha made this statement while inaugurating several key development projects in the Khowai district on Sunday.

“To encourage and provide facilities for talented players, quality sports infrastructure is being developed in every part of the state. The government is also modernizing the education system through various projects,” Dr. Saha said.

Among the newly inaugurated projects is a state-of-the-art synthetic astro-turf football field constructed under the Khelo India project at a cost of Rs. 5 crore. This football field, developed according to international standards and recognized by FIFA, is one of seven synthetic astro-turf fields built across Tripura.

Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of maintaining the field, stating, “This field is a gift for Sharadotsav and its upkeep is the responsibility of the community. Our aim is to encourage children to engage in sports by providing the best infrastructure.”

The inauguration also included the opening of new buildings for Khowai Singichra Saratchandra Class XII School and Khowai Government English Medium School.

Dr. Saha highlighted the active participation of tribal children in sports and emphasized the unity in diversity evident in sports across the state. He further announced plans to build an athletic track, a state-of-the-art swimming pool, and open gym facilities to promote fitness and sports.

In support of the state’s talent, 52 individuals received one-time financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s State Talent Programme, while 10 sports coaches were appointed under the Chief Minister’s Sports Development Scheme.

Distinguished guests at the event included Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, MLAs Pinaki Das Chowdhury and Nirmal Biswas, and Khowai Zilla Parishad Chairperson Aparna Singha Roy.
