Delhi Govt Schools Achieve Remarkable Record with 96.99% Pass Percentage in Class 12

Delhi government schools have outperformed the national average with a remarkable 96.99% pass percentage in the Class 12 CBSE examinations, according to the results released. Similarly, in Class 10, these schools achieved a pass percentage of 94.2%, showing a significant improvement of 8.36 percentage points over the previous year and surpassing the national average of 86.7%. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal extended his congratulations to the students and the education department staff for this outstanding performance. This year, 151,429 students from government schools appeared for the Class 12 board exams, with 146,885 students clearing the exam. The pass percentage of 96.99% is notably higher than last year’s 91.59% and exceeds the pass percentage of 94.18% recorded by private schools in the capital. Furthermore, 307 government schools in Delhi achieved a 100% pass result in the Class 12 exams, more than doubling the previous year’s figure of 118 schools. Additionally, 863 schools recorded more than a 90% pass rate, an increase from 647 schools last year. Education Minister Atishi applauded the efforts of students, teachers, and parents for this remarkable achievement, emphasizing that Delhi’s education model sets an example for the nation. While the pass percentage for Class 10 in government schools improved to 94.2%, up from 85.84% last year, it was slightly lower than the 95.68% pass percentage recorded by private schools in the capital. Atishi encouraged students who did not clear the main exam not to lose hope and urged them to strive for improvement. However, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva dismissed the AAP’s claims of improved performance, citing alleged failures of underperforming students in Class 11. Overall, the results reflect the continued commitment of the Delhi government to provide quality education and maintain the trust of parents in government schools under the leadership of CM Arvind Kejriwal.

CBSE Results 2024 (OUT) Live Updates: CBSE Class 12 Records 87.98% Pass Percentage, Class 10 Secures 93.60%; PM Modi Congratulates Students

CBSE has announced the results for the Class 10 and Class 12 exams for the year 2024. The pass percentage for Class 12 stands at 87.98%, while for Class 10, it is 93.60%. Students can check their results on the official websites — results.cbse.nic.in, cbse.gov.in, or cbseresults.nic.in. The Class 10 exams took place from February 15 to March 13, while the Class 12 exams were held from February 15 to April 2, 2024. Both exams were conducted in a single shift, from 10:30 AM to 01:30 PM, across various examination centers. A total of 39 lakh students from 26 different countries appeared for the exams, with 5.80 lakh students from the national capital alone. The CBSE has decided to discontinue the tradition of announcing merit lists for the top-performing students in both Class 10th and 12th exams to reduce unhealthy competition among students. Prime Minister Modi has extended his congratulations to the students on their performance in the CBSE exams. Students can access their results online and check their marks and overall performance.

Sodalis Group Acquires Majority Stake in Germany’s Artdeco Group

While the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, it’s understood that Sodalis Group will obtain more than an 80 percent stake in the firm. The transaction is anticipated to be finalized by early June, pending necessary clearance from antitrust authorities. Founded in 1985 by Helmut Baurecht, Artdeco Group comprises three brands: Artdeco, Make up Factory, and Anny. Artdeco, the flagship makeup label, is a prominent name in the German selective makeup market, known for its affordable pricing and extensive product range. The brand enjoys widespread presence, with over 90 percent of German perfumeries and department stores carrying its products. In 2023, the brand contributed to 84 percent of the group’s total sales, which amounted to 72 million euros, marking a 16 percent year-over-year increase. This acquisition represents a strategic move by Sodalis Group to strengthen its presence in the health, beauty, and personal care sector and expand its portfolio with established brands in the German market.

This year, the overall pass percentage for Class 10th 2024 stands at 93.60%, showing a slight increase from the previous year’s 93.12%. The number of students placed in compartments (full subjects) has decreased from 6.22% in 2023 to 5.91% this year. Disney’s unexpected profit in its streaming entertainment division contrasted with a downturn in its traditional TV business and weaker box office performance, causing its shares to drop 6% before the market opening on Tuesday. The company’s streaming division, including Disney+ and Hulu, reported operating income of $47 million for the January-March period, a significant improvement from a loss of $587 million a year earlier. However, the combined streaming business, including ESPN+, still reported a loss of $18 million, though narrower compared to the prior year’s loss of $659 million. While streaming showed promise, revenue from Disney’s traditional television business declined by 8% to $2.77 billion, with operating profit falling 22% from a year ago. Despite this, CEO Bob Iger expressed confidence in the company’s direction, emphasizing the transition to a new era marked by solid performance and global content creation. Iger, who returned from retirement in November 2022, implemented cost-cutting measures expected to reach $7.5 billion by September. Additionally, Disney announced a significant investment in theme parks and plans for a standalone ESPN streaming app. The unexpected profit from streaming was attributed to aggressive cost management, with Disney+ adding over 6 million customers during the quarter. Despite streaming’s growth, costs associated with streaming cricket may lead to a loss in the current quarter but a return to profit in the following period. Looking ahead, Disney anticipates that the combined streaming unit will generate a profit in the fiscal fourth quarter, becoming a significant growth driver for the company with improved profitability expected for fiscal 2025. Government Notifies Tri-Service Act, Paving the Way for Unified Theatre Commands

The government has taken a significant step towards military integration and efficiency by enforcing the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act, paving the way for the creation of unified theatre commands. This landmark move aims to streamline command and control structures, leading to better operational synergy and effectiveness. The enforcement of the ISO Act, which received presidential assent on August 15 last year and was passed by Parliament during the monsoon session, marks a crucial milestone in the most radical military reorganization since Independence. This development comes in line with the BJP manifesto’s commitment to establish military theatre commands for more efficient operations, following the creation of the chief of defence staff (CDS) post in December 2019. CDS General Anil Chauhan chaired a “Parivartan Chintan” recently, during which sub-committees made presentations on various domains and aspects towards jointness and integration, signaling the impending establishment of integrated theatre commands (ITCs). The momentum for ITCs had stalled after the unfortunate demise of the first CDS Gen Bipin Rawat in December 2021, amidst inter-service turf conflicts. India’s transition to a cost-effective war-fighting machinery through ITCs is imperative, considering the inefficiencies of the existing 17 single-service commands. The ISO Act empowers military commanders of tri-service organizations with administrative and disciplinary powers over personnel from the Army, Navy, and IAF, without compromising the unique service conditions of each service. The ISO Act is instrumental in enabling requisite command and control structures for proposed ITCs. The current plan includes two adversary-specific ITCs—one for the northern borders with China at Lucknow and another for the western front with Pakistan at Jaipur. Additionally, the Maritime Theatre Command at Karwar in coastal Karnataka will cover the Indian Ocean Region and the larger Indo-Pacific. The Ministry of Defence stated that the Act will empower the heads of ISOs, expedite case disposal, avoid multiple proceedings, and foster greater integration and jointness among the armed forces. This move underscores the government’s commitment to modernizing India’s defence infrastructure and enhancing its strategic capabilities.

Tripura Government to Implement E-Attendance System in Government Schools

In an effort to enhance the quality of education and monitor the performance of teachers and students, the Tripura government has announced plans to introduce an e-attendance system in all 4,912 government schools. The move, to be implemented under the Vidya Samiksha Kendra initiative, aims to bring transparency to the academic system and improve the overall functioning of schools. The digital attendance system will cover both teachers and students, with the entire process expected to be completed within a two-year timeframe. Initially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat in 2022, the Vidya Samiksha Kendra initiative is designed to enhance educational outcomes by leveraging technology and providing real-time monitoring of educational initiatives. Following the implementation of the e-attendance system, a geo-tagging feature will also be introduced to facilitate online access to essential school-related information. Once the e-attendance system is fully operational, monitoring of teacher and school performance will be conducted by the Chief Minister, relevant ministers, and senior officials. Training sessions for headmasters and other stakeholders are already underway to familiarize them with the new digital system. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who oversees the Education Department, recently inaugurated the state’s first Vidya Samiksha Kendra in Agartala. This center aims to digitize educational data, provide real-time visibility into educational initiatives, and support decision-making through data analysis and AI. With over 37,000 teachers and nearly 700,000 students enrolled across various levels of school education, the introduction of the e-attendance system is expected to significantly improve accountability and transparency in Tripura’s education sector.
