Amitabh Bachchan gets emotional on KBC 1000th episode with daughter Shweta, granddaughter Navya

It was a different India when Amitabh Bachchan sat down to play Kaun Banega Crorepati for the first time at the start of this millennium. Now, almost 21 years later, the show has become a part of Indian pop culture, our day-to-day conversations and many of our dreams. As KBC completes 1000 episodes this week, Amitabh will welcome daughter Shweta Nanda and granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda to its sets to play the game. As Shweta asks her father how he feels as he completes KBC’s 1000 episodes, he says he feels as if the entire world has changed. A reel showcases the major milestones along the way during this journey of two decades — the first crorepati, the first person who won Rs 7 crores, the first woman and first child who became crorepatis, as well as how the show and its host touched lives. Amitabh gets emotional in the end of the video. He then says that the game is far from over. In another video, he jokes that Shweta and Navya are in for a tough time. Navya asks Amitabh about his preparations to host the two of them, “Whoever comes on the hot seat, you ask them how have they prepared for KBC. So, today, I want to ask you, how did you prepare for us?” To this, Big B replies, “Jalebi ki tarah seede sawaal honge aur bhool bhulaiyaa ke tarah aasan (The questions will be as straight as a jalebi and the quiz will be as easy as a maze).” Shweta then jokes, “He waited for 999 episodes to get done.” Earlier, sharing his thoughts on hosting his daughter and granddaughter, Amitabh had written on his blog, “The banter of the family dining table, the repartee, and most importantly the several causes that the young at this age think about and work for. An evening of great pride for the father and grandfather – for Papa and Nana!” Source: Indian Express

Zee-Sony merger deal in final stages, says Punit Goenka

Punit Goenka, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of media and entertainment company Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd Ltd, has said the proposed merger with Sony Pictures Networks India, is “in final stages of stitching up.” Speaking at the APOS India Summit by MPA (Media Partners Asia), Goenka said such consolidation has always benefited the media and entertainment industry. MPA is an independent provider of research, advisory and consulting services in media, telecom, sports and entertainment for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. “I certainly believe that consolidation is going to benefit the industry overall,” said Goenka. “Zee and Sony will form the largest media entertainment player in the country. Our revenues on a standalone basis combined will be close to $2 billion, and the capital growth that Sony is going to infuse in the merge entity will really give us the opportunity to invest in premium content and that includes sports,” Goenka said. Pointing out the reasons for the merger, he added that businesses of the two companies are complementary in nature, with minimum overlap. as an example, Zee that had sold Ten Sports to Sony in 2017, will now see the sports genre return stronger for the merged entity. “The opportunity is great, because the digital landscape has opened up a new opportunity for monetization, which did not exist five years ago. and the sector itself will see a lot more happening going forward. So certainly, sports will become an area of focus for the merged entity,” Goenka said, also addressing the speculation around the new entity bidding for the rights to the upcoming IPL (Indian Premier League). “But the decision for bidding or not bidding, and bidding at what value etc., will be taken by the board of the new merged company, and not by me individually,” he added. Calling government regulation for the broadcast sector “far from light-touch,” Goenka said India will remain both a TV and digital market in the foreseeable future and that Zee, as a company will continue to invest in linear television while trying to grow its digital pie. To be sure, Zee’s founding family has been embroiled in a bitter battle with Invesco, its largest shareholder which has approached a division bench of the Bombay high court to challenge an earlier order that restrained the US fund manager from calling a special shareholders’ meet to remove Goenka and reconstitute the Zee board. Zee has challenged Invesco’s plan to restructure the board in courts and alleged that the US investor is trying to take over India’s largest publicly-traded broadcaster at the behest of another company. India’s Fast Bowler Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and His Wife Nupur Welcome Their First Child

Delhi: Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, India’s fast bowler tied the knot with his wife Nupur on 23rd November 2017 in a private ceremony at Meerut. The couple welcomed their first child – a baby girl today in Fortis hospital, Delhi. The good news came right after they celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary together. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was on board for the matches as recently as earlier this week as he was part of India’s 3-match T20I Series against New Zealand. He was in Kolkata on Sunday, leading the Indian attack in the final T20I against New Zealand. The birth of their baby girl came as a blessing to the fast pacer as he was going through a tough phase after he lost his father to liver cancer earlier in the month of May during this year. He also finally returned to the senior national side after going through a lot of injury setbacks. With the audience having extremely high expectations, Bhuvneshwar had an ordinary Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021. He managed to take just 6 wickets in 11 matches. However, the senior pacer was picked for the T20 World Cup in the UAE despite poor run of form and he managed to play only one match — the opener against Pakistan. After conceding 25 runs in 3 overs, Bhuvneshwar was dropped and did not return to the playing XI at the World Cup. Source: India Today

Launch of Yoga Guru Ramdev s TV channels faces opposition in Nepal

The Nepal government will take action against yoga guru Ramdev’s two tv channels if it is discovered that they’re being operated within the country without taking permission or following due procedures, a senior official mentioned on Sunday. Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ collectively launched the 2 TV channels – Aastha Nepal TV and Patanjali Nepal TV –in the presence of Ramdev and his close aide Acharya Balkrishna on Friday. The channels are meant for broadcasting spiritual and yoga-related programmes. However, Director General of Nepal’s Department of Information and Broadcasting Gogan Bahadur Hamal mentioned that two tv channels have never applied for registration and didn’t observe any legal process to begin them. “We will take action if we found that Patanjali Nepal and Aastha Nepal channels belonging to India’s yoga guru Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna have built infrastructures to broadcast the television programmes without fulfilling any legal formalities and even having registered,” Hamal said to PTI. “We can’t believe the statement issued by the Patanjali Nepal. We have formed an investigation committee to find out the truth. If they have made any preparation regarding operating the television channels from Nepal without our permission and without following due procedures, we will take necessary action,” Hamal mentioned. However, Patanjali Yogpeeth Nepal mentioned in a press release that it has already gone by a verification process for the tv channels from Company Registrar’s Office and the method has been initiated for additional permission from the bodies involved for operating the tv channels. We haven’t actually broadcast the television channels, we’ve only made technical preparation for the same. We have only inaugurated the television broadcasting office building, it mentioned. It mentioned the tv channels – geared toward broadcasting programmes referring to yoga, Ayurvedic training, tradition, literature and religious philosophy – will begin working solely after the due processes. Commenting on the event, Patanjali Spokesperson S Okay Tijarawala mentioned that the Aastha TV has a due license for downlinking in Nepal, which is valid till 2024. “Prime Minister Debuba inaugurated the trial run of two channels – Aastha Nepal TV and Patanjali Nepal TV – with country-specific content in the Nepali language on November 19, 2021. It has got 30 days’ time to get commercial approval for this trial run for full telecast, he said. He said that full broadcast will start as per the due procedure after December 19. “Information & Broadcasting Ministry of the Government of Nepal has already acknowledged the truth that this inauguration of the 2 channels – Aastha Nepal TV and Patanjali Nepal TV – is as per due diligence following the principles and rules,” he added. Meanwhile, the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, an umbrella organisation of local journalists, issued a statement, saying the country’s law prevents foreign investment in the media and the launching of television channels by the Patanjali group was a violation of the law. “We want to remind the group concerned about the existing laws and rules that prevent operating TV channels under foreign investment,” it mentioned. ‘Thank you for being a critic; the fans will decide’: Marvel Studios boss reacts to Eternals’ poor reviews

Marvel Studios’ executive Victoria Alonso thanked the critics for his or her reactions, although mostly negative, to the studios’ recent film Eternals. Victoria was delivering a speech about LGBTQ equality and visibility when she mentioned Eternals. The Marvel Cinematic Universe film featured a various cast and characters identifying with the LGBTQ community. Released earlier this month, Eternals didn’t receive many good reviews. As reported by Variety, Victoria was presented with the Visionary Award at the Outfest Legacy Awards on Saturday night where she addressed the critics. “We have tried to stir it up and sometimes the critics are not with us. That’s OK. That’s OK. We thank you for being a critic. We thank you for writing about us. and the fans will decide,” she said. “Diversity and inclusion (are) not a political game for us. it’s 100% a responsibility because you don’t get to own the worldwide success that we’ve given the Walt Disney Company without the support of people round the world of every kind of human there is,” she added. Besides bad reviews, Eternals also made headlines after the Marvel movie was reportedly banned in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman. According to Deadline, censors sought further cuts beyond any scenes of same-sex intimacy scenes within the film. Eternals featured MCU’s first same-sex kiss. However, Disney chose to not make the edits following which distribution certificates were held back. During a press conference, as reported by news.com.au, Angelina Jolie said, “I’m sad for [those audiences]. And I’m proud of Marvel for refusing to cut those scenes out.” She called concerns over the film’s same-sex marriage, between Phastos and Haaz Sleiman, ‘ignorant’. “I still don’t understand how we live in a world today where there’s still (people who) wouldn’t see the family Phastos has and the beauty of that relationship and that love. How anybody is angry about it, threatened by it, doesn’t approve or appreciate it is ignorant,” she added. Source: Hindustan Times
