Q: The event name is Digital Bharat Education Conclave. Towards Digital Bharat, what are the key steps which your university, under your leadership, is taking?
A: So, for example, we are trying to be connected with most of the world because, for example, AI is coming. So, in every programme, we have introduced a course on AI. Every programme, whether it is Sociology, whether it’s Economics, English, so that is what we have done.
Q: How is skilling and innovation blending with AI in education today?
A: The skilling and innovations are blending with AI because, if you look at it, now the students have to not only just see what is the answer to any question, now they have to see what is our question.
So, the question they have to really understand. So, to make them wiser students, we make them learn through experiential learning. We create creativity for them, whether it is starting from cultural activity or innovation or hackathon, to small activities, from social activities to deep learning. That kind of atmosphere we are trying to create in the university.
Q: So, nowadays, it is a trend of very specialised courses and trending and new-generation courses. Any such development happening in your university as well?
A: Yeah, we have made our students aware of all these things. For example, we have SWAYAM, we have SWAYAM Plus+, where they can go into this. And not only just this, we also make them aware about all these tech companies that are there. So, it is up to them to reach there. We cannot force that.
Q: In the era of digitalisation, we also see that a digital divide is still there. How do we motivate the people of Tier 2 and Tier 3, the students, to migrate towards bigger cities for a brighter future and education?
A: Yeah, that is unfortunate that we really see that the divide is still there. But we, as a government institution, are trying to see that nobody is—for example, even we have all these ChatGPT, all these, we have purchased, and we allow them to work free of cost on computers.
And not only that, we allow our neighbouring villages, 10 villages we adopted, to come to us and they can do it. That’s, at the local level, trying to do that.
Q: What is the role of incubation centres, and is it really making a difference if anybody is aspiring towards being an entrepreneur?
A: Whether it is making a difference or not, but it should make. We have also started the incubation, and there are three-four projects there. And now other companies are also coming, students are coming, and we are also funding their small-small projects at the university level.
Q: Is NEP on the right track? Is it accelerating, or is it moving beyond pace?
A: Actually, if I look at the NEP, now more work has to be done at the school level. When I say the vocational subject has to be introduced, I will see that being implemented, when I say that only those students who are getting vocational studies, they are able to go to IIT and to other such institutions. So, that is my dream, but let’s see when it happens.
Q: In forums like this, when we see a mix of government, private institutions and educators and corporates coming onto one platform, along with preschools and schools, how does it make a difference to society at large?
A: In fact, it has to be all there. Now, without private, we cannot think of education in India. And we are working in government for so many years. So, we are serving the people who are not able to afford anything. We are trying to help even those who are not able to pay the very small fees we have. But we are trying to help them. So, we have a mixed society. So, let us work together and learn from each other.
Q: I am also very pleased and excited to share that ArdorComm Media Group is just a five-year-old baby. We are a media startup in the era of COVID we launched ourselves, any message or any good wishes would you like to give in our anniversary year to ArdorComm Media?
A: ArdorComm Media, it’s five years old and I have been attending earlier. I always see that whatever private companies have come for education, it definitely contributes towards the education of our young students, so that it can benefit anyone. So, that’s the way I look at private partners.
