IIT Roorkee, University of Calgary Join Hands for Joint Doctoral Degree Programme

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has partnered with the University of Calgary (UCalgary) in Canada to introduce a Joint Doctoral Degree Programme (JDDP), aimed at expanding international research collaboration and academic exchange. The agreement was signed during a ceremony in Calgary, establishing a framework for both institutions to work together on advanced research and the development of technologies addressing global challenges. The programme will focus on key areas, including sustainable development, clean energy, the circular economy, water and wastewater management, critical minerals and semiconductor-related technologies. Through the initiative, doctoral scholars will benefit from joint supervision, interdisciplinary research opportunities and access to the academic infrastructure and research facilities of both universities. The partnership also aims to bridge the gap between research and real-world applications by encouraging innovation, entrepreneurship and technology commercialisation. IIT Roorkee Director KK Pant said the collaboration would open new avenues for interdisciplinary research, nurture globally competitive doctoral scholars and support efforts to address pressing societal and industrial challenges. University of Calgary Provost Sandra Davidson said the partnership would advance research collaboration while enabling doctoral students and faculty members from both institutions to explore new ideas, exchange knowledge and work together on significant research questions. IIT Roorkee Partners with TeamLease EdTech to Launch Executive Programme in AI for E-Commerce and Quick Commerce

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has introduced a new executive programme focused on Artificial Intelligence applications in e-commerce and quick commerce, in collaboration with TeamLease EdTech. Designed as a six-month course, the programme is aimed at working professionals looking to strengthen their expertise in rapidly evolving digital commerce sectors. The curriculum is structured to provide learners with in-depth knowledge of AI, machine learning, generative AI, natural language processing (NLP), and data-driven technologies that are transforming modern commerce ecosystems. Key modules include AI fundamentals, customer segmentation, recommendation engines, demand forecasting, inventory management, dynamic pricing strategies, fraud detection, customer analytics, and last-mile delivery optimisation. Participants will also gain practical exposure to industry-relevant tools and technologies such as Python, Power BI, Tableau, Elasticsearch, collaborative filtering models, association rule mining, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, LLM-powered chatbots, NLP frameworks, and open-source large language models. The programme will be delivered through live interactive sessions, making it accessible for professionals currently working as well as individuals aspiring to build careers in the e-commerce and quick commerce industry. Learners will work on real-world business challenges through hands-on projects and a capstone assignment focused on areas such as pricing strategies, customer intelligence, forecasting, recommendations, and churn analysis. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certification from the Continuing Education Centre at IIT Roorkee. IISc Bengaluru Launches Three New BTech Courses for 2026; Admissions Through JEE Advanced

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has announced the introduction of three new BTech programmes for the 2026 academic year, expanding its undergraduate engineering offerings. Admission to these newly launched courses will be based on JEE Advanced 2026 scores, followed by participation in JoSAA counselling. The newly introduced programmes are BTech in Materials Science and Engineering, BTech in Mechanics and Computing, and BTech in Aerospace Engineering. Until now, IISc has been offering two undergraduate programmes — Bachelor of Science (Research) and BTech in Mathematics and Computing. Students seeking admission to the existing BTech Mathematics and Computing course were selected through JEE Advanced via the institute’s own admission portal. According to IISc, the new courses have been developed to prepare future engineers capable of driving innovation, research, and technological development in interdisciplinary and emerging sectors. The curriculum will focus on a strong academic foundation during the initial semesters, integrating engineering fundamentals with mathematics, science, and advanced computational techniques. The institute added that graduates from these programmes are expected to gain analytical, technical, and practical expertise that will make them valuable to global industries, academia, and research organisations. Meanwhile, IIT Roorkee is conducting JEE Advanced 2026, which is scheduled to take place on May 17, 2026. To qualify for JEE Advanced 2026, candidates must rank among the top 2.5 lakh successful students in the JEE Main 2026 BE/BTech paper. Applicants should be born on or after October 1, 2001, with relaxations applicable for reserved categories. Students can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years and must have first appeared for their Class 12 or equivalent examination in either 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. IIT Roorkee Releases JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Rules; Exam Scheduled for May 17

IIT Roorkee has officially announced the eligibility criteria and key dates for JEE Advanced 2026. Only the top 2,50,000 performers from the JEE Main 2026 BE/BTech paper will qualify, based on a fixed category-wise distribution. The exam will be conducted on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Under Criterion A1, candidates must rank within the top 2.5 lakh across categories: 40.5% OPEN, 10% GEN-EWS, 27% OBC-NCL, 15% SC and 7.5% ST, with an additional 5% PwD horizontal reservation in each group. IIT Roorkee noted that totals may slightly exceed 2.5 lakh if ranks are tied. Foreign national categories OCI/PIO (I) will be treated strictly under OPEN, without access to reservation benefits except PwD where applicable. Age limits require candidates to be born on or after October 1, 2001, with a five-year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD. Candidates may attempt JEE Advanced only twice in two consecutive years. For Class XII eligibility, students must have appeared for the first time in 2025 or 2026 with PCM as compulsory subjects. IIT Roorkee clarified that any declared board result—regardless of exam mode—counts as an appearance. IIT Placements: Lowest Salary Packages Received by Students in Top IITs Since 2019

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), renowned for their impressive placement records and multi-crore salary packages, have reported surprisingly low minimum salary offers in recent years. While average salaries range between ₹20 to ₹28 lakh per annum, and top packages can exceed crores, some students have received much lower offers, reflecting the impact of global economic uncertainties. Recent placement data from IIT Bombay showed that the lowest package offered this year was ₹4 lakh per annum, a significant drop compared to previous years. Experts attribute this trend to the broader economic situation, which has influenced campus recruitment. IIT Placement: Lowest Salaries (2019-2024) IIT Madras: Ranked first in NIRF 2024, IIT Madras saw its lowest salary fluctuate between ₹5.4 lakh per annum in 2019-20 to ₹6 lakh per annum in 2023-24, despite a rise in average salaries from ₹29.28 lakh to ₹41.72 lakh over the same period. IIT Bombay: Ranked third in NIRF 2024, IIT Bombay’s lowest package this year was ₹4 lakh, with 10 offers ranging from ₹4 to ₹6 lakh. The campus also saw 22 students securing crore-plus offers, mostly for international roles. IIT Kharagpur: Ranked fifth, IIT Kharagpur’s lowest packages varied from ₹7 lakh to ₹16 lakh in recent years. The 2023 placements saw over 700 offers, including six crore-plus packages on the first day. IIT Roorkee: Salaries consistently ranged between ₹6-8 lakh annually across the past five years. IIT Guwahati: Noted a low salary of ₹5.23 lakh in 2022-23, with other years averaging around ₹7 lakh. IIT Delhi: Ranked second in NIRF 2024, IIT Delhi reported a lowest package of ₹10 lakh per annum, with highest and average stipends being ₹4.04 lakh and ₹2.63 lakh per month, respectively, in its summer placements. Despite the impressive overall numbers, IITs have decided not to publicly disclose individual salary packages, recognizing the potential negative impact on students’ mental health due to the intense competitiveness and high expectations around compensation figures.
