UGC-NET June 2026 Exam to Be Re-Conducted for Three Subjects in September

The Centre has informed the Delhi High Court that the UGC-NET June 2026 examination will be re-conducted for three subjects following complaints of errors in the question papers. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, told the court that examinations for English and Commerce will be held on September 9, while the Sociology paper will be conducted on September 10. The submission was made during the hearing of a petition filed by Aman Singh Yadav, a candidate who appeared for the Sociology examination on June 30. The petitioner had sought a stay on the declaration of UGC-NET results, along with an independent investigation into allegations that the question paper had been leaked and circulated commercially before the examination. Taking note of the Centre’s decision to conduct a fresh examination, Justice Jasmeet Singh disposed of the petition, observing that the relief sought by the petitioner no longer remained applicable. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC-NET June 2026 examination between June 22 and June 30 across 87 subjects. The examination determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as assistant professors and admission to PhD programmes. During the hearing, the petitioner alleged that the Sociology question paper contained serious errors and had also been leaked before the examination. He claimed to have submitted representations to the NTA regarding the issues but had not received a response. The petition also sought an independent investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the alleged question paper leak. The CBI was represented before the court by standing counsel Premtosh Mishra. In a separate public notice, the NTA said it had received multiple complaints concerning errors in the question papers of the three affected subjects. The agency subsequently constituted a committee to examine the complaints. Lok Sabha Considers Public Examinations Amendment Bill, 2026 to Strengthen Anti-Paper Leak Law

The Lok Sabha on Tuesday took up the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 for consideration and passage, aiming to further tighten the legal framework against examination malpractices and paper leaks. The proposed legislation amends the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 by introducing stricter penalties for offenders. Under the Bill, those found guilty could face imprisonment of up to 10 years, fines of up to ₹10 crore, and confiscation of their properties. It also mandates every state and Union Territory to establish Special Fast Track Courts for day-to-day hearings to ensure swift justice. The Bill further requires investigations into offences to be completed within two months from the registration of a police case, while trials must conclude within three months of filing the chargesheet. Introducing the Bill, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr Jitendra Singh said the amendment reflects the government’s commitment to protecting students and preserving the integrity of public examinations. He stated that the strengthened legal framework aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to safeguard the future of the country’s youth. Singh described the legislation as a landmark reform, adding that previous governments lacked a comprehensive law to effectively address paper leak cases. He said recent incidents of examination malpractice highlighted the need for stronger legal provisions, prompting the government to introduce the amendment to restore public confidence in the examination system. During the debate, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticised the government, alleging that the amendment falls short of meaningful education reforms and serves only as a cosmetic change to the existing law. Backing the Bill, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj called it a significant step towards ensuring transparent and fair examinations. She said organised examination mafias now operate across multiple states, making stronger legal measures essential. Swaraj also highlighted provisions for the creation of a Special Task Force to investigate paper leak cases and the establishment of Special Fast Track Courts for speedy trials. Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav expressed concerns over recurring paper leaks and questioned the government’s outsourcing practices at the National Testing Agency (NTA), citing the alleged NEET-UG paper leak despite the enactment of the 2024 law. IAF to Transport NEET 2026 Question Papers as Telangana Prepares for Re-Exam Across 208 Centres

Around 73,000 candidates are set to appear for the NEET 2026 re-examination in Telangana on June 21, with authorities implementing extensive measures to ensure a smooth and secure conduct of the test. The examination will be held across 208 centres located in 24 cities throughout the state. During a high-level review meeting chaired by Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Abhishek Singh announced that the Indian Air Force (IAF) will, for the first time, be involved in transporting NEET question papers. The move is aimed at strengthening security and safeguarding the integrity of the examination process. The Chief Secretary directed district administrations and relevant departments to coordinate closely and ensure seamless arrangements for candidates, including infrastructure, transportation, power supply, drinking water, and other essential facilities at examination venues. Telangana Principal Secretary (Health), Christina Z. Chongthu, stated that all necessary preparations are underway to facilitate the large-scale examination across the state. Emphasizing security, Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat instructed police authorities to maintain strict vigilance at examination centres and work in coordination with local administrations. UGC-NET Introduces Ayurveda Biology as a New Subject Starting December 2024

In a significant update for the National Eligibility Test (NET) aspirants, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced the addition of Ayurveda Biology as a subject in the UGC-NET exam, starting December 2024. This new subject choice aims to foster interdisciplinary study and bridge traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern biological sciences. UGC Chairman, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, expressed enthusiasm about the new subject, stating, “Introducing Ayurveda Biology in UGC-NET will allow students to delve into Sanskrit texts on Ayurveda and apply their insights to develop sustainable research models in contemporary biological sciences.” Prof. Kumar emphasized that this addition will also open avenues for PhD holders in Ayurveda Biology to contribute as researchers and educators in universities, thus nurturing future generations in both Ayurveda and modern biology. CBI Claims Major Breakthrough in NEET-UG Exam Paper Leak with Arrests in Patna

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced Tuesday a major breakthrough in its investigation into the NEET-UG exam paper leak with the arrest of two men in Patna. Among the arrested is Pankaj Kumar, also known as Aditya, a Bokaro resident and 2017 civil engineering graduate from NIT-Jamshedpur. Kumar is accused of stealing a sealed question paper box from an aluminium trunk sent by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to Hazaribag after tampering with it. His arrest followed that of Rajkumar Singh, a guest house owner in Hazaribag, who allegedly assisted Kumar in stealing and passing the papers to exam mafias, according to sources. NIT Jamshedpur spokesperson Sunil Bhagat said it is difficult to comment on Kumar’s conduct during his college days. “The college has to visit the record book to know about his performance in the semester exams,” he said. The arrests could uncover the origin of the conspiracy and the extent of the nationwide network involved in the paper leak, according to sources. Earlier, the CBI arrested Ehsanul Haque, the sacked principal of Oasis School (NEET centre in Hazaribag), vice principal M Imtiaz Alam, and Hazaribag journalist Jamaluddin. Sources revealed that the private school principal and vice principal mentioned Rajkumar’s guest house during questioning. Journalist Jamaluddin allegedly provided Rajkumar’s name during his interrogation, linking them to the paper leak conspiracy. Some examinees were allegedly kept at Rajkumar’s guest house, where they were given the leaked questions and answers to memorize a day before the exam. Nine sets of question papers were dispatched from SBI Hazaribag to various exam centres. The papers received by Oasis School had tampered seals, leading to the discovery of the school’s involvement. NTA provided details about a partially-burnt question paper found at a play school in Patna’s Khemnichak area, which served as a safe house for medical aspirants.

Hazaribag School Centre Faces Retest for CUET-UG Amid Paper Leak Allegations

The Hazaribag school centre, under scrutiny for an alleged NEET-UG paper leak, is back in the news. Out of 1,000 CUET-UG aspirants for whom the National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting a retest on July 19, 250 candidates are from Oasis Public School in Hazaribag. According to NTA sources, the retest is necessary due to the distribution of question papers in a language not chosen by the candidates and issues with “missing data” for some aspirants. The agency announced the retest schedule on Sunday but did not address the delay in the results, which are already over two weeks late. The final answer key has also not been released. The official notification on Sunday stated that grievances submitted by candidates up to June 30, and complaints sent to rescuetug@nta.ac.in between July 7-9 (before 05.00pm) have been reviewed. The re-examination will be conducted for the affected candidates on July 19 in computer-based test mode. The public notice did not specify the number of candidates or the nature of the grievances. However, sources indicate multiple issues, including “missing data” for some aspirants. According to NTA sources, the “1,000 candidates are spread across six states, and some grievances include time lost due to the distribution of the wrong question paper.” The distribution of incorrect question papers also occurred during the NEET-UG exam on May 5, leading NTA to grant grace marks for the lost time. However, following opposition and pleas in Supreme Court against the inflation of marks, NTA withdrew the results and announced a retest for 1,563 candidates, 813 of whom attended the exam on June 23. Sources also mentioned that NTA has not been able to retrieve data for some candidates. “Some data are missing, so these candidates will have to take the test again on July 19,” said the source, without revealing how the data was misplaced. This raises questions about how long NTA will take to release the results. Initially scheduled for June 30, the results were delayed due to the paper leak allegations involving NEET-UG and UGC-NET. On July 7, the agency released the provisional answer key for CUET-UG 2024, indicating a retest for candidates if grievances were validated. “Initially, it was decided to announce the results for the remaining candidates before the retest, and subsequently for the rest. However, a final decision is yet to be made,” said the source, indicating further uncertainty. Delhi University has already indicated that a three-week delay in results would delay the university’s academic calendar by two weeks. It now appears the delay will extend to nearly four weeks, further affecting the academic calendar for the first-year undergraduate students for the 262 participating universities.

Students to move Supreme Court after centre cancelled controversial-NEET exam

Over 50 successful Gujarat-based NEET-UG candidates, including several top rankers, have moved the Supreme Court seeking a direction to restrain the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) from cancelling the controversy-ridden exam. They have requested the top court to direct the Union education ministry to investigate and take strict action against students and others who indulged in unfair practices like paper leak and impersonation in the NEET-UG exam conducted on May 5 this year. A fresh plea by 56 students was filed just days before a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is scheduled to hear 26 petitions seeking various reliefs, including a re-test and a probe into the conduct of the exam, which has been plagued by allegations of malpractices. These allegations, including paper leaks, have led to protests in several cities and disputes between rival political parties. The pleas seeking the cancellation of the exam, a re-test, and a high-level probe are listed for hearing on July 8 in the Supreme Court.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the result of the NEET-UG re-exam 2024. Candidates who appeared for the re-exam can now check their results on the official website: exams.nta.ac.in/NEET. The re-examination was conducted on June 23, 2024, for 1563 candidates, with 813 of them taking the re-test. The NTA had released the answer keys for the re-exam on June 29, allowing candidates to download the provisional answer keys from the NEET website. Why was the NEET-UG Re-Exam Conducted? During the NEET-UG exam held on May 5, 1563 candidates across seven centers experienced delays due to the distribution of incorrect question papers. Initially, the NTA decided to grant grace marks to these affected candidates. However, this decision was later revoked following legal challenges in the Supreme Court. The Centre informed the top court that the grace marks were rescinded, and affected candidates were offered a re-examination. Candidates who chose not to take the re-exam would have their original scores, excluding any grace marks, considered final. NEET-UG 2024 The NEET-UG, conducted by the NTA on May 5, saw participation from approximately 24 lakh candidates. Although results were declared on June 4, the examination process faced scrutiny due to allegations of question paper leaks in Bihar and other irregularities across various states. The central government has faced criticism over these alleged irregularities.
