Hema Harchandani, Founder & Managing Director, Canvas International School, Delhi, Highlights on Technology Implementation in Education

“We cannot escape from technology; it’s an integral part of education now,” says Hema Harchandani, Founder & Managing Director, Canvas International School, Delhi, in an Interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Delhi? The summit is very exciting, and I think we should keep doing these kinds of conferences because it’s an opportunity for every educator to come together on one forum and discuss their experiences in running their schools. We can share how we are implementing learning-based programs and developing knowledge and skills. It’s wonderful, and I’m enjoying it. The theme of our event is India Vision 2030. According to you, what should be the vision for the school education sector going down the line? We have to understand that schools need to create a value system aligned with the goals for 2030 because we are shaping the leaders of the future. The processes and systems must be clearly defined. We need to follow a curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration. The education system should be learner-centric, and teachers should continuously upskill to ensure our children are future-ready for 2030. What’s your take on the implementation of technologies like AI, VR, and MR in education? We cannot escape from technology; it’s an integral part of education now. However, it should be implemented in a blended learning process, both inside and outside the classroom. We need to strike a balance. We cannot tell the new generation to stay away from technology; instead, we should adapt and use it to enhance their learning experiences. This forum brings together education leaders, EdTech players, and the government. How does this benefit the education sector? This kind of forum is very beneficial because it brings together different educators, government representatives, and tech companies. It provides an opportunity to learn from each other. We can incorporate new ideas and technologies into our curriculum and education systems. It’s a platform where we can all learn and grow together. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd? Congratulations to Chandan and the entire team. You guys are working hard, so keep doing what you’re doing, and keep inviting us to these events.

MIB Approves BARC’s Raw Audience Data Sharing with Broadcasters

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has granted permission to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) to share unprocessed audience measurement data with television broadcasters. BARC had formally requested MIB’s approval to provide this raw data to broadcasters. Currently, BARC shares this information with media agencies and advertisers. In a letter to BARC, MIB stated, “BARC can share raw data up to the previous week, i.e., the data pertaining to viewership for the week preceding the one being reported, with broadcasters. This sharing should be done transparently and fairly, while ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of BARC’s audience panels are maintained.” MIB also acknowledged that BARC has increased the number of panel homes by approximately 85%, from 30,000 to 55,000. Experts anticipate that providing raw data will offer television networks more comprehensive insights into viewer behaviour. According to the ‘Policy Guidelines for Television Rating Agencies in India,’ data generated by rating agencies should be accessible to all interested parties in a transparent and equitable manner. The ministry emphasized that the raw data has been adequately safeguarded and anonymized and does not contain any personally identifiable information about panel members, thus preserving the secrecy, privacy, and integrity of the panel homes.

DMC Staff to Receive Salary Boost in Line with 7th Pay Commission Recommendations

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) staff is finally set to receive a salary boost in line with the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission after a seven-year wait. This decision will impact both current and former NDMC employees, specifically those who retired before December 31, 2015. The announcement was made by Kuljit Chahal, an NDMC member, who stated that all departments within the NDMC would implement the salary structure outlined in the 7th Pay Commission. This proposal was presented during a council meeting held on August 23, 2023. In addition to this significant change, there was a suggestion to extend the Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) pay scales to other NDMC sections, such as accounts, audit, and law departments, covering the period from April 1, 1998, to December 31, 2015. Chahal stressed that this move aims to prevent legal disputes and ensure satisfaction among affected personnel. Furthermore, adopting the 7th CPC is expected to streamline long-pending promotion processes, with no deductions from employee salaries for any recoveries. Chahal also highlighted ongoing efforts by the NDMC, including addressing matters like regularizing 4,500 regular must-roll (RMR) employees and providing job opportunities for compassionate employees.

Major General (Dr.) Mandip Singh, SM, VSM, President Strategic Alliances, DroneAcharya, Shares the USP of the Company

“We want to train any youth who wants to fly a drone,” says Major General (Dr.) Mandip Singh, SM, VSM, President Strategic Alliances, DroneAcharya, in an Interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Delhi? It’s truly amazing. In fact, I am so glad that we got an opportunity to come here. It’s something that I think the idea has come, and I’m so glad that the new education policy, which is focusing so much on skills, is being actually talked about at length in this seminar and gathering, both at the university level and at the school level. As far as we are concerned at Dronacharya, we are basically a company that is into training and services, and our view is that we must inculcate the idea of aviation and drone technology at the school level, starting from class six. So I am here to propagate this idea. You must be aware that the Prime Minister has a mission and vision that India must be the global hub of drones by 2030. So, we would like to actively contribute to that vision. What’s the USP of Dronacharya? Dronacharya is a training company, it’s derived from guru ‘Dronacharya’ in the Mahabharata who was the guru of the Pandavas and the Kauravas. We picked up from there, and that’s how we are into training. We want to train any youth who wants to fly a drone. Today, it’s very simple. If you want to drive a car or a scooter, you need a license. Similarly, if you want to fly a drone, you need a license. We are a qualified RPTO (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Operator), and we provide DGCA-certified training. Once you complete the course, you get a qualified DGCA certificate and a license to fly a drone for 10 years. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? More power to ArdorComm Media! If this is the second anniversary, let’s hope that every year it only improves and gets better. Thank you so much for inviting me; it’s been a pleasure to interact with you.

Prof. Pratyusha Kumar Mandal, Secretary, NCERT, MoE, Govt. of India, Shares Insights on Transformative steps taken by NCERT

“Textbooks developed by NCERT are available online, and the digital versions are enriched with additional information as learning aids,” says Prof. Pratyusha Kumar Mandal, Secretary, NCERT, MoE, Govt. of India, in an interview with Chandan Anand, CEO & Group Editor, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram What has been your takeaway, and experience at today’s event? I must say that this is a wonderful effort by you to bring so many people who are holding leadership positions in their respective schools and other organizations on one common platform to share their experiences. It’s only after sharing such experiences that we can find the way to implement the National Education Policy 2020. In today’s e-learning and digital era, there are a lot of changes happening in the publication sector. In what ways is NCERT working to make reading habits more interesting and engaging for kids? This is inevitable because the two worlds are now merging with each other—the traditional way of learning from textbooks and the new way of learning from digital platforms. NCERT is actively engaged in the work of bringing the two together. Textbooks developed by NCERT are available online, and the digital versions are enriched with additional information as learning aids. You can find a scan code in every textbook that provides access to additional material on the NROER platform. The two worlds are joining together seamlessly. When it comes to selecting educational publications, schools often have choices. What criteria should schools keep in mind when selecting publications? It’s essential to see whether the textbook you’ve chosen fulfils the expectations laid down in the learning outcomes of the curriculum. If the textbook meets those standards, you are free to choose it. NCERT makes every endeavour to develop curricular material that meets the expectations of the curriculum in terms of learning outcomes. If another publication meets these demands, you can choose it without any problem. Parents often consider the thickness or weight of a book when selecting textbooks for their children. How has NCERT addressed this concern? The thickness of a book depends on the number of case studies or examples needed to understand a particular concept thoroughly. India is a vast country, and textbooks need to reach every child. Therefore, case studies must come from areas where children reside, so they can connect with the textbook. The focus should not be on the number of pages but on whether the core concepts are well explained. The intention is not to overwhelm students with a proliferation of concepts but to focus on core concepts to ensure their learning progression. We are celebrating the third year of the National Education Policy’s announcement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. How are you looking forward to this event? Many such events are required because the message of the National Education Policy needs to reach the last person in the country and beyond, considering India’s large diaspora. The policy has been designed to address the needs and aspirations of people living in India and abroad. NCERT has been relentlessly pioneering this effort. The National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage has already been released, along with the required curricular materials. Foundational stage education has been institutionally recognized and empowered with the necessary curricular material for teachers and young learners. Any message you’d like to give to ArdorComm Media on its 2nd anniversary? It was quite a surprise for me. It was such a beautiful convention, and I wish all the best to you and your team. I look forward to many more such conventions in the future.

Thank you for inviting me over, and it’s a great pleasure to be here, to understand the future of education with regard to the National Education Policy (NEP) and its implementation. At the same time how are we going to be futuristic about implementing the various skill educations that are required to get our children future ready for 2030. How are you implementing technology in your school? We’ve implemented technology in an interdisciplinary manner. We encourage our students to apply their learning across different disciplines with an entrepreneurial mindset. In forums like this, where education leaders, EdTech players, and government representatives come together, how do you think such events benefit the education sector? Such forums are crucial for educators as they provide opportunities to network and understand the various learning platforms available in the market. Having speakers who work directly with the government, like Dr. Anup and Dr. Pratyusha from NCERT today, is encouraging. These events promote joyful learning for children, reduce the fear of examinations, and emphasize practical application of knowledge. Any message for our ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? ArdorComm Media is doing a wonderful job in bringing educators together, motivating us to be abreast with the latest technologies in learning and also bringing awareness in terms of what education has to offer on a nationwide forum and also helping us to collaborate and understand how we can implement it further in our schools.

India Rejoices as Chandrayaan-3 Successfully Lands on Moon’s South Pole

In a monumental achievement for India’s space exploration endeavours, Chandrayaan-3, the third lunar mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), successfully executed a soft landing on the Moon’s south pole today at 6:04 PM local time. The world watched in awe as India became the first country to reach this challenging region of the lunar surface. Chandrayaan-3 Mission:'India🇮🇳,I reached my destinationand you too!': Chandrayaan-3 Chandrayaan-3 has successfullysoft-landed on the moon 🌖!. Congratulations, India🇮🇳!#Chandrayaan_3#Ch3 — ISRO (@isro) August 23, 2023 The historic event was accompanied by live telecasts and updates, building anticipation across the nation and around the globe. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation following the successful landing, stated, “No country has reached there (the South Pole of the moon) before. With the hard work of our scientists, we have reached there.” He hailed the achievement as a symbol of India’s progress and innovation. Leaders from various sectors and regions joined in congratulating ISRO and the nation on this remarkable feat. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath celebrated the momentous occasion, and sweets were distributed at the Embassy of India in the United States in honor of the Chandrayaan-3’s success. PM Modi, who was in South Africa for the BRICS Summit, connected to ISRO via video conferencing to witness the historic moment firsthand. The mood at ISRO’s Mission Operation Complex in Bengaluru was one of jubilation as the nation’s pride soared high. Chandrayaan-3’s journey to this point was marked by meticulous planning and unwavering dedication from the ISRO team. The spacecraft underwent rigorous checks, and the mission was on schedule as the lander, named Vikram, began its descent. The mission’s success was not without its challenges. Chandrayaan-3’s landing was a complex process that involved reducing its speed from over 6,000 km/hr to nearly zero, transitioning from horizontal to vertical orientation, and finally achieving a soft landing on the lunar surface. Dr. Anand, a senior scientific officer at Nehru Planetarium in Bengaluru, assured the public that all instruments on the lander were functioning as expected. He praised ISRO’s preparedness for the mission. Chandrayaan-3’s success reflects India’s commitment to space exploration and engineering technology. The mission opens new horizons for lunar research and cements India’s position in the elite group of nations capable of reaching the Moon’s surface. The achievement comes after lessons learned from Chandrayaan-2, where the lander’s connection was lost above 2 kilometers. ISRO’s dedication to improvement and determination to succeed have now borne fruit with Chandrayaan-3. As the nation celebrates this historic milestone, it marks the dawn of a new era in India’s space exploration endeavors, inspiring the world with its commitment to scientific progress and innovation.

“I feel that the vision should be to skill every individual,” says Shruti Sharma, HOS, Delhi International School, Dwarka, in an Interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram How are you feeling about witnessing the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Delhi? I think it is very informative and carries a lot of insights. Every school and educational institute would benefit from it because the information, anecdotes, and examples being shared are valuable. The theme of our event is India Vision 2030. What should be the vision for the school education sector going forward? I feel that the vision should be to skill every individual. So, as of now we are doing teaching learning and now we have started to move on that pathway of focusing on every individual but yet a long way to go. In forums like this, where we bring together education leaders, EdTech players, and government representatives, how do you think such events benefit the education sector? It does as I already stated that there are a lot of anecdotes and there are a lot of stories and examples that are getting exchanged. The example that I shared in speaking panel today was applauded a lot and probably even if one out of these many would adhere to that it is going to make a huge change. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? I would say it’s a phenomenal job and work done by you all, gathering all the educationalists and panellists on this forum for making us further skilled. So, thank you and all the best.
