Maharashtra: Schools in Mumbai and Pune to Remain Shut Till December 15 Amidst New Variant Omicron Threat

Pune: Schools in Mumbai had been closed since the past 20 months due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the city. As they were scheduled to reopen from December 1, it has been deferred due to the arrival of the new variant known as Omicron. As per direct orders from the state government, schools will remain shut till December 15, 2021. The decision came as a part of the newly released guidelines amidst the spread of the new variant. On Monday, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the state cabinet has expressed concerns about passengers arriving from at-risk countries. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) told media, “Schools for classes 1-7 will now reopen from December 15, instead of December 1, in view of the emergence of #Omicron variant of COVID19 in the world.” The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai stated in its official notice, “to ensure the safe return of students to school, MCGM has decided to defer the decision of opening of schools for std. 1st to 7h by 14 days. Schools for Std. 1st to 7h will open from 15h December 2021.” In Telangana’s Sangareddy district, a total of 42 students and one teacher of a government-run residential school for girls had tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. The samples of the students infected with the virus have been sent to the Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology for genome sequencing amid worries over the new variant called Omicron. Anita Gupta, Principal, Raman Munjal Vidya Mandir on the vision of school post pandemic

On 20th it was announced and on 26th we were with full setup for giving education and getting connected with our students says Anita Gupta, Principal, Raman Munjal Vidya Mandir in an interview with Chandan Anand, Founding Editor, ArdorComm Media Group. What does the word new normal stands for you? Actually, the word new normal is nothing new, it is what you can say breathing differently in a setup where earlier we have forgotten about how life is with the family or with everyone. So now being in this pandemic situation it has shown us the life differently from different angles, being with the family members not within the same circumstances and premises but also actually going beyond. Beyond reaching to the parents of our students and understanding them and their understanding of ours in this setup. So, in that way I consider new normal is as the blessing in disguise.  Under your leadership how your school is growing and what is the vision you are looking forward post pandemic? I think we are already in post pandemic stage because when it came last year as a shock, so though it was only for a while you can say because on 20th it was announced and on 26th we were with full setup for giving education and getting connected with our students. For me and specially for our school the vision is getting connected with our students, with our stakeholders in such a manner which breaks all the barriers, i.e. logical, emotional, reasonable, and whatever help they need. So, we should be available to all of them and that is what we work into 24/7. Any initiative which your school has taken in the teacher training aspects? Yes, our management believes in skilling our teachers since the beginning of its setup in 1992. As it’s a rural development project so our students are from a setup, like from the cities and they are skilled, they are highly qualified and whatever is needed on day to day basis or whatever is coming up new, our management gives the training or appoints such kind of agencies which can train our teachers in the latest perspective. So, our teachers are getting the trainings from the private corporates or from CBSE and from whatever is possible. They enthusiastically do it and implement the same in the school. How does such kind of event where we have the representation from the government and the private association of the schools and a knowledge sharing platform helps the academicians and the education fraternity? It’s actually wonderful because unless and until we leave our own boundaries and we don’t connect with such kind of events then the gap cannot be bridged which is there into K-12 and the higher education system and the industries because each sector has to work together. It is after all the children, they are the leaders for the future, so we have to work together and for that these kinds of events are very important, bringing us together, sharing our vision and finding out that gaps and then brainstorming the different ideas to overcome whatever problems the schools are facing.

Amitabh Bachchan gets emotional on KBC 1000th episode with daughter Shweta, granddaughter Navya

It was a different India when Amitabh Bachchan sat down to play Kaun Banega Crorepati for the first time at the start of this millennium. Now, almost 21 years later, the show has become a part of Indian pop culture, our day-to-day conversations and many of our dreams. As KBC completes 1000 episodes this week, Amitabh will welcome daughter Shweta Nanda and granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda to its sets to play the game. As Shweta asks her father how he feels as he completes KBC’s 1000 episodes, he says he feels as if the entire world has changed. A reel showcases the major milestones along the way during this journey of two decades — the first crorepati, the first person who won Rs 7 crores, the first woman and first child who became crorepatis, as well as how the show and its host touched lives. Amitabh gets emotional in the end of the video. He then says that the game is far from over. In another video, he jokes that Shweta and Navya are in for a tough time. Navya asks Amitabh about his preparations to host the two of them, “Whoever comes on the hot seat, you ask them how have they prepared for KBC. So, today, I want to ask you, how did you prepare for us?” To this, Big B replies, “Jalebi ki tarah seede sawaal honge aur bhool bhulaiyaa ke tarah aasan (The questions will be as straight as a jalebi and the quiz will be as easy as a maze).” Shweta then jokes, “He waited for 999 episodes to get done.” Earlier, sharing his thoughts on hosting his daughter and granddaughter, Amitabh had written on his blog, “The banter of the family dining table, the repartee, and most importantly the several causes that the young at this age think about and work for. An evening of great pride for the father and grandfather – for Papa and Nana!” Source: Indian Express

Dr. I.K. Bhatt, Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University, Faridabad on the adaption of technology in education

One good thing that has happened during this period in this new normal is that there has been a very good interaction between the academic institutions and the industry said Dr. I.K. Bhatt, Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University, Faridabad in an interview with Chandan Anand, Founding Editor, ArdorComm Media Group.  How does such kind of events, education summits, or Knowledge forums help the academicians and the education fraternity? In meetings like this you interact with people, understand what are the view points of others and try to pick up the best ideas to implement them in your own way in your own institutions. We at Manav Rachna University have been doing it and the ultimate aim is that the student should learn. With this covid which imposed certain restrictions on the learning of students because they were not physical present on the campus and therefore we had to have communication with the students which was done through different mechanisms, using different means, technology and therefore we have really moved away from what was normal at that time and a new normal has been created which is where we are now working. When we look at this scenario, probably educators were the last to really make implementation of the new technology but covid has made it really mandatory for us and it has really moved all the education institutions within a span of six months, and everybody started delivering for the students so that their time is not wasted. Now when we look at this it also gave us an opportunity to look at various people, meet industries globally in fact initially it was difficult to interact with people in different places but covid gave us an opportunity, especially to the education institutions that we could interact with any person sitting anywhere in the world actually. Their ideas came quite useful for the university as well as for all the academic institutions. One good thing that has happened during this period in this new normal is that there has been a very good interaction between the academic institutions and the industry and therefore they have become partners not only in delivery but designing of the courses and then delivering it together along with the faculty members and I’m sure that over a period of time, in another three to five years we will see a major change in the attitude, in the learning skills and also all of these students who are studying now will be employable because now the industry is part of this teaching learning process.  Any technological advancement or implementation which has happened in Manav Rachana University which you would like to emphasize on? We already had all the systems in place but we were probably using 20% of it and when the covid came, all these technologies, we had ERP, LMS, all these we integrated totally. In fact, we were the first in the country, not even the IITs were at that time, we were the first in the country to really implement this in that particular manner and I congratulate the teachers really, they have done a wonderful job. Using these new technologies have also changed the methodology of teaching, the pedagogy of teaching and several of them which we earlier used to only talk about have now been implemented in our system.  According to you what factor should we keep in mind for accepting or adapting a technology in a university? The first thing which needs to be done when we pick up a technology because several technologies are available now throughout the country and globally in fact. The first thing which needs to be done is training of teachers, if a teacher is not conversant with the technology, nothing works therefore the first thing is teaching the teachers to be trained if they are trained and conversant with the technology, they know how to use it, they know how to deliver and how to evaluate, assessment process becomes the most important thing when we are talking about learning. Therefore, I personally believe that training of teachers both in terms of domain knowledge which they have, using technological tools and pedagogies because these different technologies, these different ways of handling things, in these areas they need to be aware of.

3 Challenges While Choosing a Career Path and How To Solve Them!

Are you stressed about choosing a right career path? Well, you don’t have to worry about it. In today’s ever changing job market and global economy, there are always new things to switch and merge into. If you are not sure on what to follow for the rest of your life, you can invest your time in finding short term goals. After a certain point of time (or experimenting), you can switch to other things you like. You can find your long-term goals while doing other things. One thing that we are pressured into by our families, mentors, schools, universities, teachers and the society is to find a job that pays! Earning money is certainly a very big part of your life, but you shouldn’t let your decisions and thought processes be crowded with it. You career path should be related to things you internally like and it should be rewarding emotionally, mentally and physically. The modern-day youth doesn’t like to stick to one thing! They love to explore and that is what is constantly pushing innovations in the market. However, if you are stressed about taking a decision for you career, here are a few challenges that you might face. 1)     Lack of Right Guidance Well, we are not saying that you won’t find guidance or people to talk to about your interests. In the information and social era, it is very easy to connect with people who share the same interests. But sometimes, too much information or the wrong sources may derail you from your path to the right door. Hence, instead of basing decisions on generic advice, you should let your intuition and inner voice guide you. Interacting with people from the same field may be the best option to go with, but do not let certain demerits or difficulties waiver you to choose a different option. Connecting with the right advisors or stakeholders will help you garner important insights to form a base for your decision. 2)     Parental and Peer Pressure (Yes, it still exists!) Our parents come from a time when they were either hushed to work for tasks they weren’t interested in, or they simply had to work somewhere because there weren’t any other lucrative options at the time. Only a few pursued their real dreams and landed their dream jobs. Often you will hear your peers or parents discuss about how problematic it is to get into certain type of career paths, but don’t let those discussions cloud your judgement. Every person has a different ability, IQ and EQ. One other problem with parental and peer pressure is that it tends to make you a part of the herd mentality. Maybe your parents and peers are very supportive about the decisions you want to make for yourself, but if you have over indulging parents who are trying to push you into certain career paths just because other people have made it big there, you shouldn’t get influenced by it. You should most importantly, try to understand that it is not necessary to match your academic achievements with your career path. If you want to pursue music, sports or art, you should definitely go for it. Everything is possible with good research and determination! Try researching as much as you can from various sources before making a decision. After you are sure, you can try convincing your parents with facts, figures and most importantly, “Why” you want to make the choice for yourself. 3)     Foreign Opportunities and Salary-Based Decisions Many students are captivated by videos, pictures and the lifestyle that people live outside India. That all sounds great, but you should not base your career decisions just because you want to go abroad or someone else in your group is doing it. You have to think from a rational mind about the field you are opting for and the country you want to choose. It is a struggle for many students to settle down abroad, however, opting for the right courses, the right country and the right university will help you get a decent job. You should always research or talk to people you know who are working in foreign countries before coming to a conclusion. The other dilemma that all students go through is choosing between things they actually like and choosing between a career path that will give them economical leverage. However, things you have to consider before taking salary-based decisions are: If you actually like the job Will you fit in well with the environment? Will it give you mental peace and satisfaction? If you are good at it Will you able to stay healthy and fit at the job? All of the above-mentioned factors may seem unimportant now, but as you start progressing and working, a healthy and positive work environment is must for your overall wellbeing. Conclusion Do not let fear, money, pressure or greed guide your decision-making. Choosing a career path is crucial for your life and so is deciding to switch to something else later. Do not let the fear of low bank balance dominate your true calling. You should try to explore new things as much as you like. With the right research, a healthy mind and the zeal to stay relevant, you can figure out the best career paths for yourselves.

EPFO Announces Centralized Process of Money Transfer, No Need to Open New Account After Job Change

Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) Central Board of Trustees (CBT) has approved the development of a centralised IT- enabled system by C-DAC. It is aimed at initiating the integration of all EPF accounts to make it easier for employees to change their jobs without the worry of transferring their EPF accounts to their new workplace. In an official statement, Union Labour Minister of State, Bhupender Yadav, explained that after the centralised system is implemented, the field functionalities will be shifted to a central database in a phased manner, to help carry out operations in a smoother manner. The perks of the process are: It will facilitate the duplication and merger of all PF accounts of the members It will remove the requirement of transfer of account on change of job Despite digitization and new technologies, even today when people leave their jobs, they are required to open a new EPF account and then have the money transferred to the new account. They have to perform this process online, on the Member Sewa portal of the EPFO, using their Universal Account Number (UAN), which should be linked with Aadhaar. If the UAN is not linked with Aadhaar, then the employees will have to submit a new form to their new employer to get the process of money transfer started. To our joy, the new system will remove all the pain of transferring all the money to our new accounts when we shift our jobs.
