India Introduces New e-Student Visa Categories to Attract International Students

-By ArdorComm News Network

In a significant move to attract international students, India has introduced two new visa categories: the e-student visa and e-student-x visa. These are designed to facilitate foreign students pursuing higher education in India and streamline the visa application process.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, mandates that all applicants register on the Study in India (SII) portal, a centralized platform for admission to recognized Indian higher educational institutions.

The e-student visa is exclusively for foreign students who have secured admission through the SII portal, while the e-student-x visa caters to dependents of e-student visa holders.

Key highlights include:

  • The e-student visa is granted for the duration of the course, valid up to five years, and is extendable within India.
  • Visa holders can enter the country through any immigration checkpoint, ensuring accessibility.
  • The SII portal offers a streamlined process for applications, tracking admissions, and managing visa procedures using a unique SII ID.

The Study in India initiative, a flagship program under the Ministry of Education, boasts over 600 partner institutions offering more than 8,000 courses across diverse disciplines such as engineering, management, sciences, law, and humanities.

The e-student visa system aligns with India’s goal of becoming a global education hub, ensuring a simplified process for students while enhancing the nation’s appeal for higher education.
