India’s First AI-Powered Agricultural News Monitoring and Analysis Solution ‘Krishi 24/7’ Launched by Government

News on Gov

The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), in partnership with the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI), has introduced ‘Krishi 24/7,’ India’s inaugural AI-driven solution for automated monitoring and analysis of agricultural news. Developed with support from Google.org, this innovation will enable the DA&FW to identify pertinent agricultural news, issue timely alerts, and take swift actions to safeguard farmers’ interests and encourage sustainable agricultural development by enhancing decision-making. The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare underlines the necessity for an efficient mechanism to pinpoint and manage agricultural news articles that can facilitate prompt decision-making. Krishi 24/7 scans news articles in various languages, translates them into English, and extracts crucial information, including headlines, crop names, event details, dates, locations, severity, summaries, and source links, ensuring that the ministry receives timely updates on pertinent events found on the internet. During the launch of this initiative, Manoj Ahuja, Secretary (A&FW), emphasized that this news monitoring system not only keeps stakeholders informed but also empowers them to shape the narrative. He encouraged continuous improvement and adaptability to the evolving landscape of information. Samuel Praveen Kumar, Joint Secretary (Extension), explained the system’s functions, which aim to provide near real-time monitoring of online agricultural news articles, helping the DA&FW identify relevant news and establish a comprehensive mechanism for event selection, alert creation, and timely action. JP Tripathi, Associate Director (Ag) at Wadhwani AI, highlighted their commitment to developing AI solutions for addressing challenges where news monitoring and validation have been manual and time-consuming. He mentioned the successful deployment of a similar solution for tracking and analyzing disease outbreaks in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). By collaborating with the DA&FW and other central government bodies, their goal is to provide effective tools that enhance information flow through data-driven decision-making.

NHAI Unveils Enhanced AI-Powered ATMS for Improved Road Safety and Digital Enforcement on Indian Highways

News on Gov

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced an updated policy to enhance road safety and reduce response times to incidents on the nation’s highways and expressways. This initiative leverages the latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology and focuses on digital enforcement of traffic regulations. As part of these improvements, the previous VIDS cameras are being replaced with the newly developed Video Incident Detection and Enforcement System (VIDES). VIDES is equipped to identify 14 distinct incidents, including violations such as triple riding, not wearing helmets or seatbelts, driving in the wrong lane or direction, the presence of animals on the road, and pedestrian crossings. Depending on the detected incident, VIDES will trigger responses such as notifying route patrol vehicles or ambulances, generating electronic traffic violation fines (e-challans), relaying alerts to nearby Variable Messaging Boards, or sending notifications through the ‘Rajmargyatra’ mobile app to nearby travelers. To ensure comprehensive coverage, these cameras will be installed approximately every 10 kilometers along the national highways, with advanced Command & Control Centers every 100 kilometers that integrate feeds from various cameras. The Vehicle Speed Detection System (VSDS) is now integrated into VIDES, optimizing the use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. Additionally, the Traffic Monitoring Camera System (TMCS) positioned every 1 kilometer on the national highways is being enhanced with capabilities such as automated accident detection and identifying stalled vehicles. NHAI is strengthening collaboration with local traffic agencies by providing dedicated workstations for traffic police representatives in the Command & Control Centers, facilitating real-time coordination and response through network sharing of camera feeds. The deployment of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is expected to contribute to disaster management by offering valuable input for effective planning and implementation. It will also enable the online sharing of highway status and other crucial information, benefiting both the agencies and highway users. The policy also includes provisions for developing integrated utility corridors along the national highways to establish Optic Fiber Cables (OFC) infrastructure. While the ATMS equipment will initially use OFC for communication with the Command & Control Centers, the policy also anticipates future integration of 5G-based communication tools as 5G coverage expands.

“We gain unique insights and takeaways every time we attend such events,” says Dr. Hemalatha S. Murthy, Principal Director, White Petals Group of Institutions, in an interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Bengaluru? It’s a great pleasure. I have been associated with Chandan Anand and LinkedIn for more than eight years. They have been organizing tremendous events focused on the process of learning through technology, awareness, and principles of education. These events can significantly impact the transformation of education. As you know, the theme of our event is New Normal Karnataka. What’s your take on this? My take on this theme is how technology, including chatbots and AI, can be implemented in Karnataka. The state has not only Bangalore but also many rural areas. We should strive to make Bangalore a better place using AI and ChatGPT. How are you implementing these new-age technologies in your institution? We have already started incorporating these technologies, and we’re exploring the use of chat GPT to enhance the educational materials provided to students. In forums like this, where we bring together education leaders, EdTech players, and government representatives, how do you think they benefit the education sector? These forums are not about individuals but about a group of people learning from each other. We gain unique insights and takeaways every time we attend such events. It’s about mutual learning and growth. Any message or wishes for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? I would like to encourage you to keep growing. There’s a lot that needs to reach educators and students through your efforts. Continuous learning and improvement are key. Thank you.

I frequently attend this type of education summit, especially in Bangalore, which is an education hub. There are a lot of opportunities, and these events help in understanding the concept of education. They provide a platform to discuss how we can move forward and address concerns with other educators. I’m coming from an emerging University especially in Bangalore where we have more than 16,000 students are there are lot of opportunities which we can discuss with. So, you are making a platform to take care about all our concerns, to discuss with the other educators, so you are doing a wonderful job. As you know, the theme of our event is “New Normal Karnataka.” What’s your take on this? Since Karnataka is an education hub, especially in Bangalore, there are many opportunities. The government has recently allowed five private universities, which adds to the opportunities. This platform provides a great idea about the education landscape, especially in the Karnataka region. Emerging technology programs like AI, machine learning, and others are already part of our curriculum. We are continuously updating the curriculum to stay current with new age technologies. What’s your take on skill development, and how should students emphasize on skill development? We emphasize skill development from the beginning of our programs. We incorporate skill development courses into the curriculum, including life skills and soft skills. In today’s competitive environment, industry looks beyond just CGPA and values other qualities. So, we mould our students from the beginning to be well-prepared for placements. In forums like this, where we bring together education leaders, EdTech players, and government representatives, how do you think they benefit the education sector? Such forums are beneficial as they incorporate industry and technology trends. I’ve seen discussions on ERP systems, which can introduce us to new features that can be incorporated into our education systems for the benefit of both students and the education community. Any message for ArdorComm Media on its 2nd Anniversary? You are providing a great platform for educators to come together and conduct such events. Your efforts, along with the presenters, are helpful in advancing the field of education, especially in higher education and to meet several good educators also.

TRAI Launches Consultation Paper on 5G Ecosystem’s Role in India’s Digital Transformation

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper titled “Digital Transformation through 5G Ecosystem.” The primary aim of this paper is to address policy challenges and propose an appropriate policy framework to expedite the adoption and effective use of new technologies within the 5G ecosystem, contributing to the comprehensive and sustainable development of India’s economy. The Ministry of Communications has emphasized that India is currently undergoing a rapid digital transformation, significantly impacting its economy and society. Reliable mobile communication technologies play a pivotal role in achieving the objectives set forth by the Digital India program. These technologies are bolstering the economy and empowering citizens by enabling services like the unified payment interface (UPI) and various innovative government-to-business (G2B) and government-to-citizen (G2C) applications. With the emergence of technologies like 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented/Virtual Reality (AR/VR), and the Metaverse, India stands on the cusp of unlocking new opportunities for growth and innovation. India initiated its 5G services on October 1, 2022, with telecom service providers actively expanding the 5G network across the entire nation. The government has launched multiple initiatives to develop 5G infrastructure and promote research and development in this domain. TRAI has also issued recommendations to accelerate the deployment of 5G networks and services in the country. Collaborative efforts spanning various sectors have been undertaken to expedite the rollout of 5G. Beyond just infrastructure deployment, it is crucial to develop and deploy new use cases for both consumers and enterprises to realize the full potential of 5G technology. When 5G is combined with AI, extended reality (XR), and IoT, it will enable businesses and society to fully harness the benefits of these technological advancements. However, achieving this vision necessitates effective collaboration across the ecosystem, involving Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), infrastructure providers, and the government. Adequate infrastructure upgrades, fiberization for 5G deployment, and network densification are essential elements to fully reap the benefits of this technology across various industries. The adoption of 5G will depend on factors like dedicated research and development investments to create India-specific use cases, increased enterprise involvement, affordable devices, and consumer adoption. To accomplish these goals, TRAI has proactively released this consultation paper to identify policy challenges and propose a suitable policy framework. The objective is to expedite the adoption and effective utilization of new technologies, ultimately contributing to the holistic and sustainable development of India’s economy through the 5G ecosystem. The consultation paper is available on TRAI’s website, www.trai.gov.in, for input from stakeholders. Interested parties are invited to submit written comments on the issues under consideration by October 30, 2023, and counter-comments, if any, by November 13, 2023. Comments and counter-comments should preferably be submitted electronically via email to advadmn@trai.gov.in, with a copy to vibhatomar@trai.gov.in. For further clarification or information, stakeholders may reach out to Vandana Sethi, Advisor (Admin & IR), at 11-23221509.

Anita Gupta, Principal, Raman Munjal Vidya Mandir, Gurugram, shares her views on Implementing Technology in Education

“Technology is going to stay forever, we all know that. So, no school or no education sector or nobody can be away from it,” says Anita Gupta, Principal, Raman Munjal Vidya Mandir, Gurugram, in an Interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Award? First of all, I would like to thank ArdorComm for organizing such a wonderful, enriching conference, and which is actually experiential learning. Because it’s just not we are talking about general things or theoretical things, we are having in-depth enriching sessions, talking about the practicality of whatever the concepts have been introduced through NEP or NCF and the use of technology. So, it’s the amalgamation of innovation, technology, skill, and whatever can be adapted in the school curriculum. How are you implementing technology in your school? Technology is going to stay forever, we all know that. So, no school or no education sector or nobody can be away from it. So, when it comes to my school, we are lucky enough because computer education and all, it was started almost two decades before, so we were already aware of it. But when suddenly, this pandemic had struck, so we were easy to make our teachers understand and our students also how to go about with the online classes. So, then we made it a part and parcel in the daily teaching also. Because before the pandemic, we even introduced the Smart Board concept in our classes and every classroom has got. So, they were already aware that technology is there to stay. We were already aware, students knew, parents also knew, we were teaching teachers to have the curriculum. So, in that way, we didn’t face the problems. And now also, we are able to. So, we have the technological problems, of course, because when it comes to, like, net issues are there or how to make it stop at what level, so these things are there. But otherwise, technology definitely is a great tool, not just in terms of its, physical presence, but also the soft content it has got. The only thing is we have to make our students and the whole environment understand that this is how you are going to make use of it. So, when we know how to use it, when we are enabled, then we can make use of it. And that’s what we are going, we are doing it. Not only in the subject enrichment activities, but also otherwise also. Like if I say, it’s too easy to take these students to the virtual tour of any place and to connect them off with the experiences, feeling it, so lively seeing the things like what we talk about VR, AI, and all these kinds of things, they can experience it themselves. So that’s how we are making use of it. We have embedded it in our curriculum. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? Yes, first of all, hearty congratulations on your completion of two successful years, and that too bringing so many educators together under the same roof, sharing such valuable inputs. So, I wish them good luck and looking forward to many new ideas like this concept of what we are talking about, improvement from here to there. So, I want this to be continued.
