Ardorcomm news

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has introduced 63 newly developed online courses on the SWAYAM platform for the upcoming 2025 academic session. Registration is currently open at swayam.gov.in/INI, with classes scheduled to commence on July 21 and August 18. These SWAYAM courses, designed to span four, eight, or twelve weeks, cater to a broad range of academic disciplines including commerce, management, humanities, arts, social sciences, psychology, life sciences, law, engineering, and Ayurveda. The curriculum includes both conventional subjects and modern, interdisciplinary topics. Final examinations for these programmes will be held in October 2025. SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Education that offers free access to high-quality online courses for learners across the country. BHU has actively supported this initiative and, over the past two sessions, has already developed 37 such programmes. Recognizing BHU’s dedication to expanding digital education, the Ministry of Education has designated the university as the National Coordinator (NC) for Institutions of National Importance (INIs) on the SWAYAM platform. As part of this role, BHU will oversee the design, academic quality, and implementation of online courses created by more than 160 prestigious institutions, including IITs and Central Universities. Dr. Ashutosh Mohan from BHU’s Institute of Management Studies has been appointed as the official National Coordinator for this initiative. The university is now tasked with supporting the academic delivery, administration, and strategic growth of SWAYAM’s Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) developed by INIs nationwide. Additionally, BHU has launched a dedicated portal news.bhu.ac.in to highlight its digital learning initiatives, student welfare activities, faculty development programs, and broader institutional achievements. The website serves as a central hub for news, events, research projects, patents, and multimedia content, offering a detailed look into life at the university. Source: Indian Express

Study Reveals Adverse Effects of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin Vaccine

A study conducted by researchers at BHU examining the long-term effects of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin vaccine revealed concerning findings. Out of 926 participants examined, nearly one-third reported adverse events of special interest (AESI), with viral upper respiratory tract infections being the most common complaint. Serious AESI such as stroke and Guillain-Barre syndrome were reported in one percent of individuals. The study, conducted from January 2022 to August 2023, involved 635 adolescents and 291 adults who received the Covaxin vaccine. Common AESI observed in adolescents included skin and subcutaneous disorders, general disorders, and nervous system disorders. In adults, general disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, and nervous system disorders were prevalent. The study highlighted that certain demographics faced higher risks of persistent AESIs. Females, adolescents with pre-vaccination Covid-19, people with underlying health conditions, and those who developed typhoid after vaccination had significantly higher odds of experiencing persistent AESIs. Moreover, adults with pre-existing health conditions had more than double the odds of experiencing AESIs and persistent AESIs, according to the study. Additionally, adults who received three doses of the vaccine and those who received only one dose had higher risks of AESIs compared to those who received two doses of Covaxin. These findings underscore the importance of continued monitoring and assessment of vaccine safety, particularly regarding long-term effects. Further research is needed to better understand the underlying mechanisms and risk factors associated with adverse events following Covaxin vaccination.

BHU Secures INR 1 Crore Donation to Establish 40 Chemistry Scholarships in Honour of Renowned Alumnus

News on Edu

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has entered into a noteworthy agreement with the Kalipatnapu Foundation, securing a substantial donation of Rs 1 crore. This generous contribution will establish 40 scholarships tailored for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students majoring in chemistry at the Institute of Science. These scholarships are set up in honour of the late Kalipatnapu Kondiah, who was a distinguished alumnus and former faculty member at BHU. Kondiah’s academic journey began with a BSc and MSc at BHU, and he later served as a faculty member within the Chemistry Department from 1922 to 1941, eventually assuming the role of the department’s head. His remarkable journey took a turn when he left BHU in 1941 to join the freedom movement, enduring a five-year imprisonment. Following his release, Kondiah’s dedication to his country led him to establish a chemical factory in Andhra Pradesh, contributing significantly to India’s self-reliance. The Kalipatnapu Foundation, initiated by his family, including his son Dr. Indusekhar Rao Kalipatnapu, his late daughter Smt Indira Devi, and his grandson Chaitanya Kalipatnapu, has facilitated this substantial donation. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed by BHU Registrar Professor Arun Singh and Dr. Indushekhar Rao in the presence of Vice Chancellor Professor Sudhir Jain and other members of the Kalipatnapu family, including Indushekhar Rao’s wife, Chaitanya Kalipatnapu, and his niece. Vice Chancellor Jain expressed his admiration for the Foundation and the Kalipatnapu family, acknowledging the immense value of their contribution in supporting students on their quest for knowledge. He emphasized that such benevolent donations play a pivotal role in BHU’s mission to provide quality education to deserving students, particularly those hailing from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
