“Approximately 15 private universities have been established, and around 10 more have received Letters of Intent” said Shri Yogendra Upadhyay, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh Highlight some of the major achievements or policies that your department has drafted? In Uttar Pradesh, particularly in higher education, significant progress has been made. There were six regions in the state where there was no government university, and the education system was not up to the mark. However, since the Yogi government came into power, the education system has developed based on the National Education Policy (NEP). There has been a focus on both the quality of education and its expansion. Today, approximately 15 private universities have been established, and around 10 more have received Letters of Intent (LOI). In the six regions that previously had no government universities, either universities are already operational or are under construction within two years. This is a significant achievement, and the quality of education has improved, with several universities receiving high grades, both government and private. What is Uttar Pradesh’s contribution to urban and rural education, and how is it progressing? Urban education is advancing everywhere, but under the guidance of Yogi Ji, a new education policy is being prepared to expand rural education. The goal is to establish a university in every district, ensuring that even the most remote areas have access to higher education. Incentives and facilities will be provided to support the establishment of new universities in these regions. What provisions are there in government universities for employment or employability? The NEP clearly states that all courses and programs will connect education with values, employment, and technology. When education is linked with technology and employment, and when it provides skills, it will not only create job opportunities but also generate employers. The establishment of new universities also brings employment opportunities, from peons to chancellors. Therefore, education that fosters employment will be provided. What does the term “New Normal” mean to you? The “New Normal” refers to how we can introduce innovation in a regular environment, enabling future generations to compete in the global race. What outcomes do you expect from such an amalgamation, and how has your experience been? This event is a confluence where people from various sectors have gathered. When such a brainstorming session occurs, it produces valuable insights that can benefit society. Would you like to say something special about us on the third anniversary of our organization? “The first question I always ask is, “Why do you want to take our franchise? What is your vision?”” Said Dr. S. K. Rathor, Chairman & MD, Sanfort Group of Schools What are your thoughts on institutions offering pre-school education, especially with the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020? I don’t have a problem with such institutions, but my submission is that if anyone is opening a pre-school, they should be very serious about their profession. Now that pre-school education is part of the formal school education setup, especially after the National Education Policy 2020 has come into effect, everyone must comply with state norms for opening pre-schools. Quality pre-school education is now mandatory. What would be the foundational steps and guidelines for someone wanting to enter this serious business? When anyone plans to start a new venture, like how we started 24 years ago, the key question is, “Why should we enter this particular profession?” For instance, when we decided to start a pre-school, we thought about the purpose behind it. Back then, not many people knew about pre-school education. But we knew that teaching 2-3-year-old kids would make them smarter and prepare them better for their educational journey. So, if someone is entering this business out of fascination or because they see it as profitable, that shouldn’t be the purpose. The goal should be to deliver quality pre-school education. What are the key points you would guide someone with if they want to take a franchise of your brand? The first question I always ask is, “Why do you want to take our franchise? What is your vision?” It’s important that their thought process aligns with our philosophy. We are very selective in franchising; we don’t chase numbers. Our focus is on ensuring that whoever takes our franchise fully embraces our philosophy in both word and action, delivering quality early childhood education. How important are health, discipline, and hygiene in this industry? What’s the secret behind your physical and mental health well? There’s no secret. People often ask me how many hours I work, and I say I work for about 8 hours a day, but I work sincerely. After 6 PM, no one is at the office. I give the same environment to my team as well—focus on fitness in the morning, work during the day, and spend time with family in the evening. If anyone follows this routine, they’ll find that their profession, business, or job performs well, their body stays fit, and their family remains happy. What do you think is the outcome of forums like this one where government, education, and corporate sectors come together? I’m very happy to hear from the Minister of Higher Education for Uttar Pradesh. The kind of change I’ve seen in the state, especially in education, is tremendous. When ministers and bureaucrats start talking about outcomes, society will automatically see change. I’ve witnessed a remarkable environment in UP since Yogi Ji came into power, especially in education. It’s crucial that the educational infrastructure in a state as big as UP is strong, and when the focus is on outcome-based education, the results will follow. We are celebrating our third anniversary, do you have any message for ArdorComm Media Group? I’ve been a witness to your journey from the start, and though I can’t attend all your events, I’m always impressed by your work. You’re doing fantastic work, especially in smaller towns where big media houses don’t usually go. This creates opportunities for people in those areas. Importantly, we allow children to learn at their own pace through free play, which sets us apart from other schools. This specialization is attracting parents, leading to the booming growth of preschools. What factors should parents consider regarding hygiene when selecting a preschool? Parents should prioritize hygiene during preschool visits. They should inspect restroom cleanliness and inquire about restroom maintenance schedules. Regular cleaning intervals, cleanliness of play areas, and sanitation practices for furniture are crucial factors to consider. What were your key learnings from today’s session? Today’s session provided valuable insights, especially regarding childcare, parenting, and environmental utilization. Learning from panelists about water conservation and parenting strategies was particularly enlightening. The event was a great source of information. How do forums like this benefit participants? NCERT Announces Revision of CBSE Syllabus for Classes 3 and 6 from 2024-25 Academic Session

The National Council of Education Research (NCERT) is set to introduce revised syllabi for Classes 3 and 6 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in line with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023. These changes are scheduled to take effect from the academic year 2024-25. A notice issued by NCERT outlines the plan for implementing the revised curriculum, emphasizing the need for adjustments to school timetables to accommodate the changes. Collaboration among CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) is deemed essential for the successful implementation of these modifications. The notice highlights the importance of proactive communication from CBSE to school heads, teachers, and parents regarding the updated syllabi and recommended time allocations for Grades 3 and 6. It underscores the significance of engaging students in playful and activity-based learning, aligning with the holistic approach advocated by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. To facilitate a smooth transition for students, NCERT will provide a syllabus bridge program for Grade 6 and clear guidelines for Grade 3. “Knowledge is not just for exchange; knowledge can be for assimilation as well. So how well you assimilate this knowledge is very important,” says Vamsheepriya Amar, Principal, MVJ International School; Chairperson, Bangalore Sahodaya (BSSCA), in an interview with Chandan Anand, CEO & Group Editor, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSABengaluru #ELSAKarnataka Under your leadership, what is your organization doing, and how is Bangalore Sahodaya grooming and growing day by day? See, first of all, let me think about the panel we just heard. They were talking about teachers’ training. We have massively utilized this platform to reach out to every school in training the learners. I am saying training the learners because they have that kind of acumen to improvise as well as to implement that back into the classrooms. So that is one of the things that we have taken on. Also, they were talking about the rural areas. Yes, we have reached out to all the remote areas where learning could have been difficult, and to get that 50 hours of CPD program back into the classrooms and the schools would have been difficult. So, reaching out to them and making it possible for them in the classrooms was one of our missions for BSSCA, basically. And also, I recently met here a couple of people, and I got a better insight into how technology can be empowering the classroom and learning environment. I just recently met somebody who was talking about the NCF (National Curriculum Framework) and FLN (Foundational Literacy and Numeracy) strategies and how technology has really helped them to take it back into the classrooms and make sure that NCF curriculum goals will be positively taken into consideration. That, I think, is a major learning for me today being here. And of course, ArdorComm is doing very well. Congratulations on your second year of launching this and trying to connect with a number of people in and around. Sometimes it so happens, back in school, we are into that, well, we feel our job is to just take care of our school, but when we come out into such open forums, we do meet people and we can really interact and also learn a lot. And I become a co-learner; that’s a basic thing that I felt is really motivating and inspiring. What is the motivation for teachers in the school campus when it comes to your shoulders as a responsibility? They need to soil their hands, and if I can use, because you’re back in Karnataka, I would like to use a proverb, “The more you soil your hands, you enjoy or reap the fruits, basically.” So, the thing is they should be thinking deeply about how much they can contribute to the learning field, and the day being learners themselves, every day is a learning, and every experience they need to reflect that enhances the metacognition skills. And I’m sure learning will be exponential unless it is within, and that innate motivation, I would say intrinsic motivation, I don’t think extrinsic motivation is possible with some of us. But yes, people like you give us the extrinsic motivation and make us feel that yes, we are doing and we’re in the right place. Let us do some more. So that’s a kind of extrinsic motivation people derive from events like this or connections like this. So, both should be balanced, extrinsic as well as intrinsic. What is the role of skill education in school education? How is it moving forward in your school, and how are you taking care of skill education? Yeah, I think NCF also speaks about this, knowledge skills, as well as competencies. All of it should be together; it should be an amalgamation of cognitive, affective, as well as psychomotor domains. So, knowledge is not just for exchange; knowledge can be for assimilation as well. So how well you assimilate this knowledge is very important. And the skills can be soft skills; all your 21st-century skills from effective communication to collaboration to creativity and critical thinking. Nothing is quantitative; it’s quality that we are depending upon. So that is one thing that we need to be mindful of in school. So, encourage every child; we never know when the child can be a radio jockey with a lot of humour, and that calls for a 21st-century skill, which is effective communication, that’s right. And after which, I did mention about the competencies. Identify these rich skills in children, mould them, nurture them, and help them explore through self-awareness where they can really understand the balance between their strengths, their weaknesses, the areas where they can really improvise. I think they may not be 100%, but the fact that they’re trying to move in the right direction is more than enough. In a forum like this, where we see the corporate is here, the government is here, the academia from school and higher education is here. What is the outcome, and what do you expect from such forums? We look forward to the policies which are really hidden and they never come out sometimes. So, when people speak, they actually get the forums in which they were actively involved back onto the stage and back to the public. So, we are looking forward to hearing from them and understanding whether the policy is just for the sake of policy or there’s going to be an implementation and a carry forward of it. It’s really very educative and informative, and I’m gaining a lot of information. I really liked the section of “I-Math,” and I went and personally spoke to the people there at that counter, and probably I’m going to tie up with them, so it’s benefiting us. As you know, the theme of our event is “New Normal Karnataka.” What’s your take on this? Frankly speaking, new norms have been a problem for kindergarteners because they are not giving us the exact policies that have to be implemented. When children are getting admitted, we are very much confused about what is the age group we have to admit the child in. So, without the right information, we are stuck nowhere. They need to really give us the proper information on it. And now, again, it’s changed, so I’m not in favour of this because it’s not giving us enough information. How do you train the teachers? Can you emphasize on teacher training? Firstly, I have got myself trained by Lata ma’am, who is a Montessorian, and under her guidance, I train my teachers. It’s very clear that all the teachers who are there in my school are trained because, as one of our speakers did say, if a teacher is not trained, the children are not going to get on the right path. So, I train my staff, and I make it a point that I tie up with various online platforms to get the staff trained. That is how we go about it. As you can see in this kind of forums where we bring in education leaders, EdTech players, as well as the government, how does this kind of forum benefit the education sector? It gives us a better understanding of what is happening around and helps us improve our skills. Like I just said, I liked the section of “I-Math,” so I’ll be introducing it into my school. That is going to help us, and yes, they are giving us some information on the National Education Policy, so that’s clearing our doubts. So, they are benefiting us.
