Cost of cervical cancer vaccine set to be Rs 200-400

Scientific completion suggests that the vaccine’s R&D efforts are finished, and that the next step would be to make the vaccine accessible to the general population. According to Union minister of science and technology Jitendra Singh, Covid has increased public knowledge of preventative healthcare, which has facilitated the creation of vaccinations such as the one against cervical cancer. “The schemes like Ayushman Bharat have made us think about preventive healthcare and we can now afford it. The Department of Biotechnology has taken a lead in the matter and are in collaborative mode,” he said. “Scientific efforts at times do not get the scale of recognition they deserve. So this event is to celebrate that scientific completion,” he said. Outside of the occasion, Poonawalla met with reporters and stated, “The cost of the cervical cancer vaccine, which will range between Rs 200 to 400, will be reasonable. However, the exact cost will only be determined following thorough negotiations with the government “. In comparison to existing cervical cancer vaccinations, he said, “the vaccine would be much, much less expensive.” Poonawalla anticipated that the vaccine might go on sale by the year’s end. He stated that the vaccine will first be made available through the government channel, then starting the next year, certain private partners would also be involved. Poonawalla added that a plan to produce 200 million doses is in place. The vaccine will initially be administered in India, and only when the demands of the country have been met, will it be exported to other countries. In order to test this vaccination, 2000 people from all over the nation participated, according to Rajesh Gokhale, secretary of the department of biotechnology. Source: PTI

Reliance AGM 2022: 5G rollout plans, Succession, Jio IPOs expected at key meet

Today at 2 p.m., the highly anticipated Reliance annual general meeting 2022 will take place. Mukesh Ambani, the CEO of Reliance Industries, is likely to make a number of significant announcements during his important speech. Several significant announcements have been made during Ambani’s annual speech at the AGM over the years, including the debut of the revolutionary Jio telecom service in 2016 and the Saudi Arabian Oil Co.’s proposed investment in the Reliance energy sector in 2019. The major announcements predicted at the Reliance AGM in 2022 are listed below: Ambani’s succession plan Mukesh Ambani signalled last year that Reliance would speed up and restate its succession planning in December. His three children, daughter Isha and sons Akash and Anant, already hold director positions in the group’s unlisted businesses. Mukesh Ambani gave up his position as chairman of Reliance Infocomm Ltd. in June to make room for his older son Akash. According to Bloomberg, the investors want to see some real action on the leadership transition, with Isha, Anant, and perhaps Nita Ambani taking on greater responsibility. Rollout of 5G Recently, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the government hoped to roll out 5G services by October 12. During the 5G auctions, Reliance Jio placed as the highest bidder, purchasing airwaves worth more than $11 billion. As they have done in the past when introducing new telecommunications products, the Ambani children may give a presentation at the conference on some of the major aspects of 5G services. IPO for Reliance Jio The IPOs of Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail Ltd. have been the subject of increased interest from market experts. Both businesses enjoy a sizable advantage over competitors and are market leaders in their respective industries. Their public offerings or even spinoffs may increase Ambani’s fortunes.  In comparison to the top performers on India’s S&P BSE Sensex, Reliance has increased by around 11% this year. Energy The announcements made last year to construct four giga-factories to produce solar modules, hydrogen electrolysers, fuel cells, and storage batteries have piqued the interest of Reliance investors. Ambani has also been acquiring small green energy companies globally for their technology and expertise. There are also aspirations to rank among the top producers of blue hydrogen globally. Education Minister calls Delhi government’s education system hollow

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attacked the Delhi government harshly, calling the state’s educational system “hollow” and “a gimmick.” Attacking the AAP administration over the excise policy, Pradhan claimed that Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, and Manish Sisodia, his deputy, are trying to hide their “theft” by bringing up the New York Times article on Delhi’s education system. “Delhi’s education system is khokhla (hollow) and a nautanki (gimmick).”  In his speech at Business Today’s “India@100 conclave” on Friday, Pradhan stated that the performance of class 10 and 12 students in Delhi government schools has been steadily declining according to the National Achievement Survey. “They are just trying to cover up for their theft using the excise policy by showing the New York Times article while in reality the situation is different,” he added. After the CBI raided the home of Sisodia, who also holds the portfolios of education and excise, in connection with allegations of irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the government’s excise policy, the New York Times report that was published last week had set off a verbal spat between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The New York Times, an American newspaper, had stated that the story was based on “impartial and on-the-ground reporting” while rejecting the claim that it was paid news. Source: PTI

Justice UU Lalit, the 49th Chief Justice of India, takes the oath of office

Justice Uday Umesh Lalit was sworn in as the 49th Chief Justice of India on Saturday, one day after Justice NV Ramana announced his retirement. Justice Lalit was sworn in as Chief Justice of India by President Droupadi Murmu in the early hours of the day at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Justice NV Ramana, who retired on August 26, is succeeded by him. As per tradition and seniority rules, Justice Ramana had recommended Justice Lalit as his replacement. Justice Lalit’s appointment as the next CJI was subsequently confirmed by the President. As the head of India’s judiciary, Justice Lalit will hold office for just 74 days, leaving on November 8. At Justice Ramana’s farewell celebration yesterday, Justice Lalit stated that during his roughly three-month term, he will concentrate on three main areas, with the making of listing of cases simple, clear and as transparent as possible being one of his top priorities. In addition, Justice Lalit has vowed to uphold a transparent structure that allows any urgent issues to be raised openly before the appropriate benches of the top court. He pledged that the Supreme Court would have at least one Constitution Bench operating throughout the year. Justice Lalit said, “I have always believed that the role of the Supreme Court is to lay down law with clarity, consistency, and the best possible way to do it is to have larger benches as early as possible, wherever the matters are referred to such benches so that the issues get clarified immediately, the matter has consistency and the people are well aware of what exactly are the contours of the peculiar positions in law.” On his last day of work, outgoing CJI Ramana apologised for not being able to name every case that was still pending and stated that the court had been dealing with a backlog of cases that had significantly risen during the months prior. Justice Lalit was a well-known senior advocate before being chosen to serve as a Supreme Court justice. He was selected to serve as a Supreme Court justice on August 13, 2014. Justice Lalit will be the second Chief Justice of India to be elevated from the Supreme Court bench straight from the bar. Justice SM Sikri, who became the 13th Chief Justice of India in January 1971, was the first lawyer to be promoted directly to the top court bench. On November 9, 1957, in Solapur, Maharashtra, Justice Lalit was born. His father, UR Lalit, served as a prominent Supreme Court advocate as well as an additional judge at the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur bench. In June 1983, Justice Lalit applied to become an advocate. From 1983 to 1985, he worked as a criminal law specialist in the Bombay High Court. In January 1986, he shifted his practise to Delhi, and the Supreme Court designated him a senior advocate in April 2004. Later, he was chosen by the CBI to serve as a special public prosecutor for the case involving the allotment of 2G spectrum. On November 8, Justice Lalit will retire, and it is anticipated that Justice DY Chandrachud will be named the 50th Chief Justice of India. Source: ANI

International education in the post-pandemic era

Blog on Edu

The number of students going overseas to seek higher education steadily increased over the five years before the Covid-19 outbreak. However, this number drastically decreased after the pandemic broke out. In contrast to the more than 5 lakh students who traveled abroad for higher education in 2019, only 2.6 lakh students did so in 2020, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), a decrease of over 55%. However, the number of students traveling abroad is gradually increasing now that the crisis has subsided and nations throughout the world are reopening their borders. When choosing where to live overseas, students have evolved into much more discriminating and knowledgeable decision-makers. They are considering everything before making a choice, including the location, the course, the career prospects, the lodging, living costs, job opportunities, and university rankings. Here are 5 important trends in overseas education that you should be aware of in the post-pandemic era if you’re a student planning to relocate abroad. Increased preference for different countries Even while the US, Australia, Canada, the UK, and Germany continue to be some of the most sought-after locations, there are now several additional nations that students are deciding to migrate to when they decide to study abroad. For instance, the Middle East, New Zealand, Europe’s France, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Scandinavia’s Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Asia’s Singapore and Malaysia are all experiencing rising tourism numbers. Students’ choice of location is influenced by a variety of factors, including their desire to explore different cultures through travel, take classes, and consider job alternatives. A vast array of courses The courses that students choose have undergone a paradigm shift in recent years. There are more possibilities outside law, medicine, engineering, and economics. The majority of colleges provide a wide range of courses, including career-focused ones like liberal arts, development studies, culinary arts, architecture, urban planning & sustainability, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and more. Therefore, it’s essential to make sure you look over the course alternatives offered by your preferred colleges before applying. It’s time for you to pursue your passion, and university course selections are fostering that environment. The future of education is a hybrid learning Education institutions have been affected by one of the pandemic’s most major disruptions. Universities that provide hybrid learning choices are becoming more and more popular with students. This will enable them to balance their academics with any side work they decide to take on to help support themselves while they are away from home. Test exemptions For those who plan to pursue higher education abroad, rigorous preparation is necessary for competitive tests like the GRE and GMAT. These factors, however, have changed since the pandemic. Although students will still need to submit a compelling application, several universities alleviate students’ pressure from these exams. Varying tendencies in scholarship An international student can benefit greatly from receiving a scholarship because it helps ease the financial burden of studying abroad. However, most scholarships were only awarded to students based on their academic performance until recently. Those times are long gone. Concepts such as social scholarships and others, in which students are assessed according to their capacity to have a positive social influence as well as other non-academic criteria. With these grants, students’ options are expanded, and the competition bottleneck is lessened. Conclusion When tackling the exposure of students, teachers, and staff to globalization, universities should shift from the transactional and credit-bearing model to a relational and social model. They ought to be able to coordinate resources, efforts, values, and ideas in support of the development of cross-cultural sensitivity, human immersion, and life-changing international experiences. Hence, moving overseas doesn’t have to be a complicated procedure. Making your study abroad experience smooth and enjoyable may be achieved by doing your homework, creating a strong application, and considering all factors. Additionally, bear in mind the aforementioned tendencies before applying. The author, Pratik Ghosh is associated with ArdorComm Media
