Dr. C. Manohar, Senior Director, Association of Indian Management Schools, Bangalore emphasizes on hybrid learning

Dr. C. Manohar

“If we want to really create confidence in the students we have got to first upgrade ourselves,” says Dr. C. Manohar, Senior Director, Association of Indian Management Schools, Bangalore in an interview with Chandan Anand, CEO & Group Editor, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘ArdorComm New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2022’ #ELSAJaipur #ELSARajasthan We welcome you at today’s forum Dr. C. Manohar. I must compliment you congratulate you and admire the way you have taken this initiative forward the New Normal Leadership Summit. New Normal has remained just a concept and is changing every day what is normal today is old tomorrow so I think it’s a continuous journey in the flow it’s like river is always flowing we need to integrate ourselves with the changes that are happening, the mindsets of the youngsters. As learners and as teachers we need to adapt, adopt and also change, so there’s a learning curve we have to keep ourselves on the high side so this kind of events what you are organizing I must appreciate is helping the teaching community, the owners of businesses, the educational institutions and all that to update ourselves the EdTech companies that are there. In fact, I have participated, have attended couple of such events in the last two years, I find if the same company comes again, so in the next event they are coming with something new. I mean that is the kind of development and progress that we would like to witness. This gives us a confidence that India is on the right path of growth when it comes to education we can be among the top leaders in education, in the world, definitely in Asia. I think these events are very meaningful for us. How do you think the hybrid learning or a blended learning will take the shape now? There is no escape, it has to be that way, there is nothing like only classroom sessions and face to face are only the online kind of a thing, it has to be integrated, blended and in the concept of blending also it keeps on changing because everything should be learner-centric. Today we find learners are much more dynamic and more educated when it comes to operational efficiency of learning even as compared to teachers, of course many teachers are upgrading themselves and they are good. If we want to really create confidence in the students we have got to first upgrade ourselves so that is very important. So, hybrid learning is going to be the order of the day so because we don’t have now the frontier, there are no borders, no classroom the whole world is your classroom today obviously hybrid has to be there and we have to adapt ourselves. What has been the outcome of this event or what are your takeaways from this event? My take away is, what is coming up again today I’m sure if I come to the next event I will see from now on to next event there will be a lot more changes. So, my takeaway is an update of what is happening in the EdTech space and also the experimentation, the new case studies which are good to replicate in other institutions. So, one good practice in one institution can be replicated and we can bring back with a new context from the same institution again. So, my takeaway is a good networking, and I could meet some new friends in the education field plus I could participate in the sessions, some new knowledge also acquired and that way it’s good, that gives me the energy and I would say that gives me confidence that yes at this phase of life we are also learners and we have to be continuous learners, lifelong learners I would say. Any message would you like to give to ArdorComm Media Group? You’re doing a good job, keep going, maybe you have to reach out to, like today you had a session on digital divide and urban and rural, I think these events should go to rural areas they are no more called the rural area they are the emerging new cities and the new knowledge hubs in fact in one of the recent events that happened in Bangalore, over 40,000 students participated and who emerged on the top 10 or 70 percent were the rural students. Imagine now if that is a kind of a reach, if it’s there we should not miss recognizing the fact that today even in rural area there is the talent, that is available we need to nurture it. It’s very important that we do that, so my message to ArdorComm Media is keep doing, keep going, outreach has to be much more, I would say even go to international level, regional levels, you can go to South Asia, Asia Pacific.

Dr. Ashok Narain Mathur, President, Homeopathy University, Jaipur, Rajasthan speaks about the importance of mental wellbeing

Dr. Ashok Narain Mathur

“If we talk about the homeopathy science, that is purely based on the mental symptoms,” says Dr. Ashok Narain Mathur, President, Homeopathy University, Jaipur, Rajasthan in an interview with Chandan Anand, CEO & Group Editor, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘ArdorComm New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2022’ #ELSAJaipur #ELSARajasthan What are your takeaways from the event? Firstly, I would like to congratulate you for organizing the event and bringing us all together here. The deliberations that take place in these events definitely helps the education sector and the private universities. Like there were discussions on digitalization, its very much needed not only in the urban areas but also in the rural areas. Though in case of medical education or homeopathy it is not possible because until we see the patients physically, treatment can’t be done, but we can give some tips so that they can be cured. What is the importance of physical, mental and social wellbeing in an education system? All these are important, if the mental level of a person is not good he can’t be cured. If we talk about the homeopathy science, that is purely based on the mental symptoms. So, I would say both physical and mental wellbeing are equally important. What is an outcome of such events where we see the presence of educators, academicians, EdTech and even the representation of the government? The outcome is good, like there’s so much about digitalization and as our prime minister also emphasizes that digitalization should take place, so it is very good. And the organizations should work fast on it so that the universities develop better. What does new normal for you stands? New normal is, as I came to know that you organize such events in many places and this is the first time in Rajasthan, so when we all meet together we’ll naturally speak about ourselves and learn from others, how to address our lacunas and developments. Any message for the students, teachers and faculties? I would like to say that we are making it research based for our teachers, because in medical science research is very important and in homeopathy under Ayush there is an immense need for research. We are trying to focus on this in our university and the more we focus on research the more would be the development in Ayush. During covid time, homeopathic science has developed a lot and not only in India but also across the world there has been a demand for homeopathy. Any message for ArdorComm Media? You have organised the event very well. Like I was listening that you are going to organize it next in West Bengal, so like this keep organizing more such events, it will benefit everyone and motivate every university.

Bharat Biotech dispatches first shipments of intranasal vaccine, iNCOVACC across India

The first shipments of the world’s first intranasal Covid19 vaccine, iNCOVACC, were sent by Bharat Biotech on Monday to various locations throughout India. “The first shipments of #iNCOVACC are being dispatched to various locations across #India. A moment of pride and accomplishment for team @BharatBiotech,” Bharat Biotech said in a tweet. On Sunday, Dr. Krishna Ella, Executive Chairman of Bharat Biotech, announced that the company has begun sending hospitals the world’s first intranasal heterologous booster dose. “We have just dispatched nasal vaccines two days ago to the hospitals,” he said. Dr. Ella informed about the distribution of vaccines during the UW-Madison Global Health Institute, and Ella Foundation agreement to establish the first-ever “UWMadison One Health Center” in India to improve vaccines, medicines, and global health education. iNCOVACC is the first intranasal COVID vaccine in the world to be approved for both a heterologous booster dose that is given as nasal drops after the first 2-dose schedule. It is a Covid19 vaccine that does not need syringes, needles, alcohol wipes, bandages, etc., saving money on expenditures associated with procurement, distribution, storage, and biomedical waste disposal, which are often necessary for injectable vaccines. For purchases in large quantities by State Governments and the Government of India, iNCOVACC is priced at Rs 325 per dosage. The first COVID intranasal vaccine for Primary series and Heterologous booster, iNCOVACC (BBV154), was today dedicated to the nation by Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL), a global pioneer in vaccine innovation and development of vaccines for infectious diseases. On the occasion of Republic Day, it was launched by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in the presence of Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh. Read: Health minister Mandaviya launches the nasal Covid vaccination from Bharat Biotech Adenovirus vaccine with a pre-fusion stabilised spike protein called iNCOVACC is a recombinant replication-deficient vaccine. Phase I, II, and III clinical studies on this vaccine candidate were reviewed with favourable outcomes. The intranasal vaccine has been created for effective distribution and simple, pain free administration. It is stable at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius for easy distribution and storage. Dr. Krishna Ella, the Executive Chairman, stated earlier in January that “With the rollout of iNCOVACC today, we have achieved our goal of establishing a novel vaccine delivery platform for intranasal delivery. It proves that India can innovate for itself and for the world. We and the country are well prepared for future COVID-19 variants and future infectious diseases.”  He continued by stating that Bharat Biotech is a leading global vaccine developer and manufacturer, having produced more than 7 billion doses to date. Indian Railways introduces a new online food ordering service using WhatsApp

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC), a PSU of Indian Railways, began offering e-catering services via its e-catering app Food on Track and a specially created website www.catering.irctc.co.in. Indian Railways unveiled its new WhatsApp communication for the railway passengers to order food through e-catering services, taking a step further towards making its e-catering services more customer-centric. There is a dedicated business WhatsApp number for this: +91-8750001323. E-catering services were initially to be implemented in two stages via WhatsApp Communication. First, a message from a business WhatsApp number will ask a customer who has purchased an e-ticket to choose e-catering services by visiting the website www.ecatering.irctc.co.in. Customers will be able to book meals of their choice from restaurants of their choice that are located at stations along the route using this option, all without having to download an app. A chatbot powered by artificial intelligence (AI) will answer any inquiries from passengers about e-catering services and will even make meal bookings for them as part of the next phase of the services. This would enable their WhatsApp number to transform into an interactive two-way communication platform. Starting with a few trains and passengers, WhatsApp communication has been deployed for e-catering services. Based on customer feedback and suggestions, Railways will thereafter enable the same on other trains. Currently, the IRCTC’s e-catering services, available through its website and app, offer about 50000 meals to consumers per day.

Pharmacy, B. Pharmacy, B. Ed., LLM, BALLB and many other courses. How do you address the digital divide in rural and urban areas? There is a very big problem especially the rural area background students are admitted in my University, mainly they focus on their job they do not attend the regular classes. So, they did not know what is the digital, they focus on blackboard study. What is the effort which your University is taking in having the industry collaborations? My university is established in 2018 it is new University, after 2024, then we’ve a plan for a NAAC inspection, UGC inspection, then we’ll focus on the placements in our University. How is skill important in the regular conventional courses? In regular conventional courses, the main focus should be on training and practical. In our university we focus on practical training and especially project reports and many other things related to practical work. In this forum what has been your experience till now where we are meeting so many people, there are education technology players also what is the learning from being a participant at this event? Amit Shah, Founder, Offee explains how they are revolutionizing the examination process with their tech solution

Amit Shah

“As a society the output of an education will be outcome based and the students will be really skilled, which the industries are today looking to,” says Amit Shah, Founder, Offee in an interview with Chandan Anand, CEO & Group Editor, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘ArdorComm New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2022’ #ELSAJaipur #ELSARajasthan Would like to know more about Offee? So, typically what we do is we enable any colleges to conduct their academics exam digitally but without internet or lab setup at all. So, student can just sit in the classroom open up his mobile, switch his phone to airplane mode connect to our patented technology that is our IOT device and start taking the exams. So, as an Institute you don’t need to invest into lab setup, you don’t need to invest into internet etc at all, tens and thousands of students can sit inside the university and then give their exams. So, this is something that we have recently innovated, the reason to do this is that once this colleges start taking their exams digitally, college will start sitting on data points with the help of this data point and student behaviour they can help students to say that hey you got 60 percent that is okay but you have this skills which are lacking and this is skill in which you’re brilliant, why don’t you improve that. So, colleges can reduce a lot of time in say conducting an exam digitally, teachers can reduce a lot of time in making the entire work reducing the admin work and overall. As a society the output of an education will be outcome based and the students will be really skilled which the industries are today looking to, so that is something that we do. Is it like conducting the examination, assessment and the results through Offee in offline mode? Yes, so we help colleges to build their paper for program outcomes, course outcome everything then we help colleges to conduct these exams which are academic exams, unit tests and semester exams including overall everything then we process the result, we give them a report card and we also give them a skill scorecard which speaks about every student and their behaviour around it. When we see that so many players are there into different LMS, ERP and so much of EdTech things coming in, how did this idea come to your mind what inspired you to do is something different from the league? We see that majority of the EdTech start-ups in India are into B2C space which we feel is that in my personal opinion, classroom teaching can never go out it can be a blended model yes but classroom as a solution or university as an institute can never go out but what if we enable these teachers inside the classroom and build technologies for them. So, that is what we are different we are building technologies for teachers inside the classroom so they can increase their engagement, they can reduce their admin work and they can really deliver quality and outcome-based education. You have been working in which segments in the education? So, in education we work with higher education, in schools both. Similarly, we work with government departments to do competitive recruitment exams where today to do any competitive exams you require a computer-based system, so CBD is not available everywhere so our solutions enable any government departments to take their recruitment or entrance test at remote level. So, the setup goes to the people and not the people come to the setup. What has been a take away from these two days of the symposium and the event? For me this is the first event I visited after pandemic, I mean event specifically into EdTech. This is much needed, I really appreciate the entire ArdorComm team, making people and Vice Chancellors come together it’s a huge task, I can relate with it we are in this segment. So, the efforts that you guys have put in to make people come together and it was very much needed after pandemic because last two years got them confused a lot like what to do, what not to do, what tech to bring in, what tech not to bring in, how will teachers cope up. In this seminar I feel the energy that these guys have come up together, they are so happy about inculcating EdTech into their domains and this is only possible with this medium. I will personally thank you and even Ashish ji to organize this and I will say keep rocking and keep doing this again and again. At last any message or any advice for ArdorComm Media Group? What you are doing is really great, keep doing it so that we can together be a part of this for a long time.

Google employees protest against mass layoffs, low pay in US

The tech giant Google recently let go 12,000 workers, prompting protests from employees on both US coasts. The employees organised the protests to make people aware of the working conditions for subcontracted workers and to show support for their sacked co-workers. There were two protests: one outside Google’s corporate headquarters in New York City and one at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. The New York protest, which was conducted outside a Google store on Ninth Avenue shortly after parent company Alphabet Inc. released its fourth-quarter results and revealed a profit of $13.6 billion, drew around 50 employees. The Alphabet Workers Union, a labour group that includes both Google employees and subcontractors, organised the protests. Although the AWU lacks the ability to engage in collective bargaining, software engineer Alberta Devor, an AWU member who has worked at Google for more than three years, claimed that the protests demonstrated how some issues affect all workers, regardless of their position or status. Subcontractors protested what they saw as unfair working conditions at the California rally, including poverty wages and a lack of benefits. These workers, who carry out duties including evaluating content to train the company’s AI algorithms and screening YouTube clips and advertisements for offensive material, claim that their pay and benefits are significantly below Google’s own minimal standards and benefits for direct contract workers.
