The breach occurred between July 14 and 23, 2023, but the company only disclosed the incident on December 22. The compromised data includes a range of personal and medical information, such as names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical records, and health insurance details. The breach also exposed billing and claims information, including patient account numbers and treatment cost details. HealthEC’s population health management platform, used by healthcare organizations for data integration, analytics, and care coordination, suffered unauthorized access during the cyberattack. The investigation into the breach concluded on October 24, 2023, confirming the theft of files containing sensitive information. HealthEC urges affected individuals to remain vigilant against identity theft and fraud by regularly reviewing account statements and monitoring free credit reports for suspicious activity. While HealthEC initially refrained from specifying the number of affected individuals, a recent submission to Maine’s Attorney General’s office revealed that one of the firm’s clients, MD Valuecare, accounted for 112,005 affected persons. However, a new listing on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ breach portal indicates that the total number of impacted individuals is a staggering 4,452,782. Seventeen healthcare service providers and state-level health systems have been identified as victims of this cyberattack on HealthEC. Notable organizations impacted include Corewell Health, HonorHealth, Beaumont ACO, State of Tennessee – Division of TennCare, the University Medical Center of Princeton Physicians’ Organization, and the Alliance for Integrated Care of New York. In a move aimed at supporting the mental well-being of students appearing for the upcoming Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations, the Board has announced the commencement of psychological counselling facilities from January 1, 2024. This initiative coincides with the beginning of the exam schedule for practical and theory papers scheduled for January 1 and February 15, 2024, respectively. According to a press note released by the CBSE, the psychological counselling facilities will be available through various channels. One of the key features is the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), which will be accessible 24×7 free of cost. Students and parents can dial the Board’s toll-free number 1800-11-8004 to receive information and suggestions on stress-free exam preparation, time and stress management, FAQs, and important CBSE contact details in both Hindi and English. Additionally, the CBSE is introducing bilingual podcasts on its official website (www.cbse.gov.in) covering relevant subjects. These podcasts aim to provide valuable insights and tips to students gearing up for their examinations. Another noteworthy feature is the Tele-counselling service, a voluntary and free-of-cost service available from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Saturday. A total of 65 trained counsellors, including principals, special educators, and psychologists from CBSE-affiliated schools, will provide this service. Notably, 52 of these counsellors are based in India, while the remaining 13 are spread across international locations such as Kuwait, Nepal, Japan, Doha-Qatar, Oman (Muscat), and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Sharjah, Ras-al-Khaimah). The CBSE has a rich history of providing psychological counselling for 26 years, beginning in 1998. This initiative, offered in two phases—before the examination and after the result—aims to alleviate stress among Class X and XII students of CBSE-affiliated schools. The scheme aims to streamline processes, offering more efficient, seamless, hassle-free, and time-bound services to beneficiaries and other stakeholders. It covers six life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac emergencies, cerebral hemorrhage, coma, electric shock, third and fourth stages of cancer, and accidents, alongside all types of indoor treatments and daycare procedures. Under the scheme, an E-card/CCHF card will be issued to beneficiaries for availing benefits in empanelled hospitals. The beneficiaries can access benefits using a payee code, Aadhaar number, or PPP number. Importantly, the entire expenditure incurred under the scheme will be covered by the state government, providing financial relief to government employees and their dependents.
