Mosquito Control Drone Project in Delhi Faces Setback, Dengue and Malaria Cases Surge

The initiative by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to utilize drones for mosquito fogging in areas prone to breeding these insects has faced delays despite a trial run conducted last week. According to a recent report from the MCD released on Monday, there were 105 new cases reported last week up until Saturday, whereas the entire month of July had seen 121 cases. The drone project was temporarily suspended due to safety concerns leading up to Independence Day, as stated by an official. The official further explained that all preparations have been made for the drone initiative, and the plan is to kick off the operation after August 15th. Each drone is capable of carrying 30 liters of insecticide, which would enable the targeted spraying of hard-to-reach areas like lakes, canals, and riverfront vicinity. The focus of this effort is to combat mosquito breeding in such areas. A notable trial run took place on August 1st, where the public health department employed a drone to spray anti-larvae mixture in the Usmanpur region. This trial aimed to address areas with a high concentration of dengue cases reported during the previous week. The cumulative count of dengue cases in the city has reached 348 so far, as opposed to 174 cases in 2022, 22 cases in 2021, 35 cases in 2020, and 47 cases in 2019. The situation underscores the concern, especially given the previous year’s total of 75 cases in the entirety of August, 72 cases in 2021, and 47 cases in 2020. Authorities noted that mosquito breeding has been exacerbated in outer Delhi regions due to waterlogging. The official emphasized that community support is crucial to effectively address this issue and urged everyone to prevent waterlogging in their surroundings and terraces. Moreover, instances of malaria have seen a significant rise, with a total count of 85 cases compared to 35 cases in 2022, 24 cases in 2021, and 45 cases in 2020. Thirteen malaria cases were recorded in the past week alone, as per the official. However, the occurrence of chikungunya has been relatively low, with only one case reported last week and a total of 15 cases, contrasting with nine cases in 2022 and 13 cases in 2021. To combat the spread of vector-borne diseases, the MCD has launched a comprehensive campaign. This initiative involves training and deploying a specialized workforce, including Asha workers, safai karamcharis (sanitation workers), and nullah beldars (drainage workers). These efforts will complement the work of 3,000 domestic breeding checkers. Each ward will now have a dedicated team of three nullah beldars and three safai karamcharis who are trained to identify and eliminate potential breeding grounds for disease-carrying vectors, the official stated.

Dr. R D Patidar, Vice Chancellor, OP Jindal University, Raigarh, Highlights the Importance of Skill Development

“Today we are shifting from rote-based learning to actually experiential learning, which is more about deeper understanding, clearing the concepts, and processes of the students or the learners,” says Dr. R D Patidar, Vice Chancellor, OP Jindal University, Raigarh in an Interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Delhi? It’s good, really a good platform where all the academicians and industry leaders are here to share their knowledge and thoughts on the New Normal, especially the new National Education Policy. So, this is really a very good platform. How are you implementing technology in your University? We are implementing technology in many ways. OP Jindal University, Raigarh, is a university of Steel technology, and we are using technology for the teaching-learning process. We are using technology for all other activities of the university, and the ultimate purpose is to make the students industry-ready by designing industry curriculum and involving industry experts with the support of technology. What’s your take on skill development? Skill development is the most important part of today’s education, especially the new National Education Policy. They provide more flexibility and freedom, and also holistic development in education to develop the skills of the students, to make them talented, or we can say, to make them employable. So, today we are shifting from rote-based learning to actually experiential learning, which is more about deeper understanding, clearing the concepts, and processes of the students or the learners. So, that’s really very important. In these kinds of forums where we bring in education leaders, the EdTech players, as well as the government, how does this kind of forum benefit the education sector at large? Such kind of events are really very important for all the educational institutions in general, and the technical institutions or higher education institutions in particular, where we can interact with each other, share the issues, challenges, and it is the right platform to discuss the issues faced by various institutions and come to resolve them and provide quality education to the youth of the nation. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? I congratulate ArdorComm Media and the entire team for such an excellent program organized in a very short span of time. Dr. Sunil Rai, Chancellor of UPES, Dehradun, Shares Insights on Education and Skill Development

“I think this century is going to be the century of skills. Degrees, certificates, and all will have no meaning, it will be basically skills,” says Dr. Sunil Rai, Chancellor of UPES, Dehradun in an Interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in Delhi? It’s a wonderfully organized event. Many congratulations to Chandan and all of you, the entire team. And many congratulations for completing two years since inception. It’s a wonderful event, very high quality, and good exchange of thoughts. What according to you, does the word “New Normal” mean? To look at life itself in a new manner, because everything is changing. Everybody is talking about these fast changes. So, this New Normal is not a static situation. This New Normal will keep changing. At today’s rate, it may change every five years, and after five years, it will change every two years, and then maybe every month. So, New Normal is a new way of life, which is a normal way of life. What’s your take on skill development for the 21st-century workforce? I think this century is going to be the century of skills. Degrees, certificates, and all will have no meaning, it will be basically skills. People will not be hired for time, but they will be hired for skills. When I say not be hired for time, today we are hired for time, nine to five one has to come to office and work, so I go and work with my skills in my own office. Tomorrow, it will be that there will be 30 people who will be talking to me, and I will be hired for my skills. So, doing this kind of analysis, it is one Sunil Rai who knows it. So, company A will call me two to three, company B will call me four to five. So, it will be skills. Skills are the way to go. How are you implementing technology or integrating technology in your University? Yeah, so basically, we always keep having the right portfolio mix of technology, which is what I mentioned in my panel also. There will always be a change that is required to your existing portfolio. So, we have our own LMS’s, our own means. We’ve got Blackboard and then there are other tools that we use for attendance, for monitoring, for student life cycle. What we do is either we change the components every about 20 to 30 percent every year, or we change even the software or the complete paradigm every three years. So, I think this is the kind of things working now, but going forward, we will have to see. So, we have to keep looking at what is working, what is not working, keep changing, keep changing in a way that you can digest it. As you can see in these kinds of forums where we bring in education leaders, industry experts, as well as the government, how does this kind of forum benefit the education sector? It definitely benefits all. My suggestion, in particular is that, because you are a media company, I think with this, there has been a phenomenal learning which has come out in today’s and will come out tomorrow as you are doing schools. There should be a complete kind of declaration or a kind of statement which should come out after this effort, and it should remain there next year. So, there could be some 20, 30, or 15 points that we should all as educators and as a society look at. These 15 things to be done next third iteration. You must check those 15, how many of them have worked and how many have not worked. I think then it will have a phenomenal impact. But it’s a very good learning when you listen to different, different thoughts. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? You’re doing very well. I mean, in two years, you have made a mark and you are doing extremely well. But I think where you can stand out is basically come up with focused suggestions and monitor them. You have your portals for each of these kinds of things, teaching-learning, administration, accreditations, rankings, benefit to society. So, all these verticals and then there could be some suggestions that are being made and they should remain there on the portal so that you’re reminded of it again and again and so you make your own contributions. You are already doing it very well. I wish you all the best going into your third year.

Reliance Industries Undergoes Employee Reshaping in FY23, Embraces IoT and AI Focus

Reliance Industries (RIL) witnessed a substantial transformation in its employee landscape during the fiscal year 2023. The company observed a significant voluntary departure of employees, encompassing both its telecom subsidiary, Jio, and its retail segment, Reliance Retail. According to the annual report, the departures included 41,818 individuals from Jio and a larger group of 1,19,229 from Reliance Retail. During the same period, Jio, which falls under the RIL umbrella, embarked on a noteworthy hiring spree. Around 70,418 fresh talents joined the Jio team in FY23, contributing to a cumulative workforce of 95,326 by the fiscal year’s closure. Intriguingly, Jio has strategically shifted its focus toward roles revolving around the realms of the internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI). Consequently, the conventional demand for sales executives has waned within the organization. This recalibration in focus has brought about a reshaping of the job landscape, particularly in the lower to middle management tiers. The ripple effect of this reconfiguration was discernible in the reported departures within both the retail and Jio sectors. This strategic transformation corresponds with Jio’s intensified exploration of IoT and AI domains, necessitating a realignment of its workforce. Remarkably, despite the outflow of personnel, RIL actually expanded its overall employee strength. The company embraced a substantial influx of new recruits, numbering 262,558, in FY23. This surge marked a significant rise compared to the 232,822 fresh recruits brought on board in the preceding fiscal year, FY22. The expansion spanned various sectors and functions within RIL’s multifaceted business operations.

Prof. Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary, AICTE, MoE, Govt. of India, Highlights some New Initiatives taken by AICTE

“We’ve also signed MOUs with industries to train faculty members in advanced technologies,” says Prof. Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary, AICTE, MoE, Govt. of India in an interview with Chandan Anand, CEO & Group Editor, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram As you know, the event name is “New Normal: Education Leadership Summit and Awards.” What does the word “New Normal” stand for you? The term “New Normal” emerged after the pandemic. Many new methodologies and ways of teaching emerged after the pandemic. One of them was remote teaching, allowing education to be delivered from remote locations. This became the new normal. Even during challenging times, institutions in remote areas adapted by offering online teaching. This shift has now become routine. So, to me, the new normal in education is the ability for students to learn from home and acquire skills through online methods. What are the new initiatives of AICTE which you would like to highlight? We have taken large number of initiatives. To support the government’s semiconductor initiative, we’ve approved colleges for VLSI, logistics, and advanced telecommunication technologies. We’ve also signed MOUs with industries to train faculty members in advanced technologies. Additionally, we’re working on allowing working professionals to enhance their qualifications through higher education. We’re also launching a scheme where working professionals can study in flexible timings in face-to-face mode. This is in line with the two education modes in the country, regular face-to-face and online. We are aware that with the launch of the NEP, now we are in a position to celebrate the third year of existence of NEP, are there any special announcements you’d like to make? We’re going to use this time to introspect on what we’ve achieved and plan to fill any gaps. It’s an opportunity for policy makers to come together and discuss implementation challenges and solutions. Whenever you are implementing something new, some problems come in implementation. So, basically, we’ll sit during these two-day program, deliberate and find out the solutions. These discussions will help us refine and improve our education system. You witnessed this event where we have the policy makers the academicians even the corporate and the entire education community how does such forums helps overall industry to grow and understand about each other? Yes, that is very important and as in today’s program we saw a large number of Industry people and academicians and people those who are running the academic institutions they are there and such type of programs definitely help to understand the issues challenges and the best practices of others. They can learn from others also and they can share their best practices with others also so this is a very important forum. I hope you will organize many more programs not only in Delhi but also in remote parts of the country as well. Any special message for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? It was really a pleasure to attend and see large galaxy of the academicians in this conclave and I hope because this is the second anniversary you are celebrating in time to come it will grow like a banyan tree and a large number of academic fraternities will take benefit from this organization.

Prof. R. S. Yadav, Vice Chancellor, Baba Mastnath University, Rohtak, Emphasizes on Innovations in Education and India’s Vision for 2030

“Through the NEP it has been reflected that we should go for a multi-faculty and multi-talented people at the same time they must also have theoretical as well as applied knowledge and in that domain,” says Prof. R. S. Yadav, Vice Chancellor, Baba Mastnath University, Rohtak in an Interview with Pratik Ghosh, Content Writer, ArdorComm Media Group at the ‘New Normal – Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2023’ #ELSANewDelhi #ELSAGurugram How are you feeling to witness the New Normal Education Leadership Summit and Awards in New Delhi? I find it very good and also an innovative idea that where a lot of people of the same discipline and also the industry are coming together and providing a new kind of input, sharing our experience also that definitely helps us in motivating and implementing NEP in a more better way and making the academics more useful to the market needs and to the demand of the society. How are you implementing technology in your university? Basically, this is an era of technology without that it is not possible to run anything, even academics. So, we are starting from the basic that Wi-Fi campus is there, smart classrooms are there and also computer labs are there, communication labs are there and through different kind of online learning courses we are strengthening the capability of the student for the traditional as well as new innovative courses in the discipline. According to you, what should be India’s vision for the education sector? Actually, through the NEP (National Education Policy) it has been reflected that we should go for a multi-faculty and multi-talented people at the same time they must also have theoretical as well as applied knowledge and in that domain. The global networking is very important because without the e-learning and without opening to these kinds of sources it becomes very difficult to update yourself to the global challenges, global market. So, we are projecting that a student should have the job orientation not only at the India scale but also at the global level by knowing all the details or what is happening today. In this kind of forums where we bring in the education leaders, the tech leaders as well as the government. So, how does this kind of forum benefit the education sector? This is a great initiative by your Media Group because this provides the real problem-solving platform because the industry people are developing their platform with their input that what kind we benefit but at the same time academic people also let them know what are the problems they have in implementation or they get to resolve the issues and if both combine definitely that will be a very good step in the right direction. Any message for ArdorComm Media Group on its 2nd anniversary? I am thankful to ArdorComm Media that I got the opportunity for the first time and they must be providing these opportunities further also and this will be a good initiative for the times to come. Thanks to ArdorComm Media for calling us for this meet.

New Blood Pressure-Based Method Predicts Critical Patient Outcomes

In a ground-breaking revelation, a novel technique has emerged to predict health outcomes for critically ill patients experiencing circulatory shock. These patients, grappling with compromised heart function leading to inadequate blood and oxygen circulation due to factors like heart failure, sepsis, or bleeding, are often in dire need of close monitoring and tailored treatment. This innovative approach, the brainchild of a collaborative effort between Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and MIT, could significantly revolutionize the management of these cases, potentially reducing mortality rates and improving overall health prospects. The breakthrough findings have been documented in the prestigious journal Nature Medicine. The crux of this development revolves around the measurement of a vital circulatory parameter called critical closure pressure. This pressure delineates the point at which minute blood capillaries collapse, halting blood flow. Despite its potential to indicate blood vessel responsiveness in the face of disease and treatment, critical closure pressure has remained largely unexplored in clinical contexts. This study embarked on a journey of innovation by harnessing high-resolution waveform data obtained from blood pressure monitoring of over 5,500 patients housed in the cardiac intensive care unit at MGH. Researchers ingeniously devised an analysis based on various measurable parameters, encompassing arterial pressure, pulse pressure, and heart rate, to accurately define critical closure pressure. Intriguingly, they then introduced a novel parameter known as tissue perfusion pressure, calculated as the disparity between average arterial blood pressure and critical closure pressure. Astonishingly, this tissue perfusion pressure turned out to be an exceptional predictor of critical health outcomes for patients – gauging the risk of mortality, length of hospital stay, and the peak level of blood lactate, an indicator of tissue oxygenation. In the words of the study’s senior author, Aaron Aguirre, MD, PhD, a distinguished cardiologist and critical care expert at MGH, as well as an assistant professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, “When treating patients with circulatory shock, it is essential to maintain adequate blood pressure targets, yet standard goals are not personalised to individual patients. We have developed a new metric that can identify individuals with inadequate tissue perfusion who are at risk for adverse outcomes. We believe this method can be used to optimise treatment decisions for patients in the intensive care unit.”
